DH and I are visiting Paris for three nights in September, our second visit there. Last time we stayed in the 7th by the Eiffel Tower and this time we want to stay in another area.
This hotel looks really nice, has good reviews, and is supposed to be in a good location for walking and for public transit.
Does anyone have any experience with this hotel? We would love to hear your comments:
LA TOUR D AUVERGNE Opera

It's funny you're posting this because I was just with someone yesterday who was staying in this hotel and they thought it was overpriced and the room decor was dated and the beds were too old and soft. Maybe there are other rooms nicer than theirs is.
As an aside, last night I walked with this person around an area several blocks south of La Tour d'Auvergne on a street called Cité Bergère and we saw several nice looking hotels on this street for much cheaper. I can't remember all their names but here's one I remember. Google should help you find the others.

Thank you!
I am still most interested in my original choice hotel:
LA TOUR D AUVERGNE Opera
10, rue de la Tour d Auvergne
I got a great price and it is far from "overpriced", has great reviews on TripAdvisor, good pics on-line, good location, breakfast included, availability of airport shuttle, close to trains, and a good cancellation policy.
Anyone else know of it?
I am having trouble finding other options for my dates in early September, 3 nights. Is this common for September?
BTW, FrenchMystiqueTours, do you represent a company by that name?
Peace Out, I would trust ANYTHING FMT has to say about anything regarding France. He/she is a regular poster here and offers excellent information time and time again. Just in case you have any concerns...don't.
I don't know that hotel, sorry.

Except, perhaps, how to navigate the correspondance at Châtelet Les Halles.
Pardonnez moi, FMT. Would you discourage me from staying there altogether?
<<Except, perhaps, how to navigate the correspondance at Châtelet Les Halles.>>
Oh really? I'm all ears! I hate Chatelet, but what does s/he suggest?
Hotel Victoria is full first week in Sept, too. Hmmm. I will look for others on that street.
Unless someone has more names?
PeaceOut - I don't know anything about that hotel other than what that person told me. The regulars on here know far more about hotels in Paris than I do since I live here and don't stay in hotels. I'm just passing on the info someone who was there shared with me. I'm not trying to dissuade you from staying there, however, just giving you a first hand account of another traveler. As I said, perhaps there are other rooms in this hotel better than theirs was.
I'm a "he", btw, but my Mrs. posts on here as FMT2 sometimes. And she likes you too.

StCirq - You are too kind. I hope to meet you at a Fodors GTG one of these days.
Padraig - I have been freed from Châtelet-les-Halles.

Find somebody attired in black and follow that person.
Thanks, FMT. I am surprised to be having such a problem finding availability in the first week of Sept. I wonder if some of the smaller hotels' reservation system doesn't work this far out, so it just spits out "unavailable for your dates"? I could e-mail, but that gets tedious, unless I have one I am especially interested in.
Anyone know about Hotel Saint Jacques?
Hotel Saint-Jacques
35 rue des Ecoles
75005 PARIS
Thanks for any 3-star hotels you can recommend, probably in the Latin Quarter, St Germaine, Louvre?
September is always a very busy month in Paris, as is October, due to salons and trade shows and just business starting up, but I would certainly think you could find a hotel this far ahead. Also, the very first week isn't as bad as later on ad a lot of things aren't happening yet (this is the week school begins). I was just looking for a hotel during the week of 9/3, actually, and found plenty so don't know what you are doing wrong.
eg, try www.espritdefrance.com, I like that hotel mini-chain and frequently stay in one of theirs, they have plenty of vacancies that week in more than one hotel in your desired areas and have 3* hotels mostly.
or try www.booking.com they have around 1200 hotels with vacancies that week when I checked.
FMT: We're making plans now for a trip to France in June. Would love to have an apéro or more with you and Mrs. FMT
I have booked the Hotel Saint-Jacques, 35 rue des Ecoles, 75005 Paris, France
It looks gorgeous and has great reviews: http://www.paris-hotel-stjacques.com/
Will cancel the original choice of La Tour D-Auvergne.
Still wondering if anyone knows the Saint Jacques?
StCirq - I'd love to meet up with you so add an @gmail.com to my username and drop me a line when your travel date nears.
Don't know the hotel but I do like the rue des ecoles area. There are 2 metros nearby and lots of bus routes. Also some excellent restaurants,Le Buisson Ardent and le Bistro de Gastronomes. Short walk to Blvd St Germain and even more bus routes.
Will do, FMT. Hunting for tickets and train reservations right now.
Thanks, avalon.
I am glad FMT raised a red flag to me. I was liking all the practical aspects of D'Auvergne, but was not in love with its aesthetics.
The Jacques looks so lovely, and just what we want. Good area for us, too, since we didn't make it to the Sorbonne and Latin Quarter on our first visit to Paris.
More expensive, and no breakfast included, but you only go around once, right?
Hey, you can always find a cafe with coffee and pain au chocolate for not much. Breakfast is not that important for us. If you found a hotel you're happy with, great!!
Now I'd better get EuroStar tickets.
We too like this area a lot. We've stayed in an apartment a bit further down Rue des Ecoles. As Avalon said, there are many good and fairly priced restaurants nearby, such as Le Buisson Ardent. Also, Christophe on Rue Descartes. Place de la Contrescarpe up the hill is a great place to relax with a drink or coffee. For more liveliness, head to Saint-Michel.
While Saint-Jacques was the name of the hotel in the movie Charade, with Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant, the actual location was another hotel further out in the 5th, according to http://www.movie-locations.com/movies/c/charade.html
PO, if you do search you will find comments from Fodorites who've stayed at the St. Jacques. I want to say janikins and bikerscott...but I am not 100%. It is a well-regarded budget hotel.
Thanks again. I guess I can't buy EuroStar this far out?
