In-house tour of St Peter's

Hi
Has anyone taken the guided tour in English, or the casette guide, offered at St Peter's Basilica in Rome? What did you think of either?
Do you have any idea when the guided tour is offered? The only place I can find any indication is at timeout.com, and I'd just like to confirm from another source; timeout says
2:15 Mon-Sat, 3pm Mon, Wed-fri, and 2:30pm
on Sun.

Elaine,

I took the Tourist Office tour on various visits to St Peters and always found it great. It is free and the guides are employed by the Vatican.

Cathy

Rick Steves says the Vatican TI offers free 90 minute tours, departing from the TI at 3:00 on M, W, and Fr. His book says you don't need to reserve ahead but to call to confirm schedule (06-6988-1662). He also says they can be preachy but do add to your understanding of the place. I have also been wondering about how good the tours are, although I prefer to see the cathedral first thing in the morning.

My husband and I took a wonderful tour of the Vatican. You can check it out at www.walksofeurope.com. The guide was fantastic. Don't make the mistake of getting in line to see the museum early in the day. We took the tour and were able to go in with them around noon with much shorter lines.Have a great time.
Hi
Thanks Pat, but I've already got an arranged tour of the Vatican Museums and the Sistine, I would be doing only St Peter's on my own.

Dan and Cathy-- The Tourist Office I want is the one at the Vat. museums rather than a separate one at St Peter's?

thanks all
