In Between Rome and Naples

Jump to last reply

I understand the quickest route between these two cities is the train.

Just curious though if renting a car to go from Rome to Sorrento how long of a drive is it? Google maps says about 2 and 1/2 hours from Rome to Naples and then another hour from Naples to Sorrento. Is that about right?

Is there anything interesting for a tourist in between Rome and Naples to see on the way up or down?

I read that Caserta is actually in disrepair--it could be the Versailles of Italy but I read the place needs major work done to renovate the building and fountains. That's actually closer to Naples and not really midway either.

I know near Naples of course there is Herculaneum, Pompeii, Mt Vesuvius etc. but I am asking about the midway point between Rome and Naples as a stopping point. Is there anything of interest to see?
