If you're going to Paris in the next couple of weeks, would you like a free calling card?

I have a "maxicall" calling card I purchased in Paris for 7.50 Euro for 300 minutes or something like that. I used the card to call home to the United States but there's at least a few hours worth of minutes on the card still. Since it expires 3 months after its first usage (Dec. 10 2005), I'd be happy to give it to anyone who can use it. Just post your e-mail and I'll email you to get your address and I'll send it off tomorrow.

I think it can be used outside of Paris, throughout France if I'm reading the back correctly. Here are the numbers on the back of the card that you can dial...

0811 600 101 or 0811 600 118 depuis toute La France or 0170720016 d'un GSM

I believe I dialed 0805817581 while in Paris.

It can only be used to call the U.S. or at least that's what the clerk told me. Maybe I should just post the code # on-line here and many people could use it until the minutes run out? I guess one doesn't need the physical card, just the relevant numbers. Let me know if you're interested.

Ebidix,

Great, you'll be able to use it before March 10? Also, do you think you'll use the entire 2-3 hours? If so, I'll just send it out to you, but if you anticipate only using an hour worth of calls, I'll give the calling card code to one other person as well, if anyone else is interested. I'm sure that even between 2 people, you're likely to still not use all the minutes... Hope you have a great trip, I'll e-mail you in the morning for your address.

I'll be in Paris March 1-10 and would love to be able to call home. If it doesn't work out for ebiddix, I'll definitely take it!

hi erika and thatgirl,

How about I send you both the calling card and code number? Thatgirl, since you'll be there first (and traveling solo) maybe I'll just send the card to you and you can promise to save erika some minutes for her days in Paris? Does that sound O.K. to the both of you?

Remember that most hotel phones will still charge you for dialing out, using these cards in apartments is easiest I think. I believe you can use it from a payphone, it'll just use up more time. thatgirl, i was in paris solo in december after my boyfriend's business trip was cancelled and I had a fabulous time. It's spoiled me on traveling alone... just post your e-mail address -- (leave spaces if you're trying to protect your account from spam...) and I'll e-mail for your address.

Hope you both have a wonderful trip, I envy both of you!

This is a wonderful and generous idea! I usually just lose the balance on mine as I only get one for Europe and it expires before I would return.
I promise to do this same thing if I have time left after my April/May trip.

Thank you so much! I'll be able to use whatever minutes are left to let my family know how wonderful Paris is!!

This is so generous of you, I truly appreciate it...

Thank you so much fishee! I am leaving my 3 year old son back home with family and don't have a cell phone that is going to work in France. It will be nice to be able to call and check in on him. Your generosity is much appreciated.

How about giving the minutes to one of our heroes stuck in a hospital in Germany?

Duh. S/he'd have to be in a USVA hospital in France. Those were demolished in 1946.

Can someone explain why this is so cheap? I've used the ones for France Telecom and they are horrible. If I call a mobile in Paris, my phone card is eaten up very quickly. It's slightly cheaper to call the US, but no way will the 7+ euro phone card last 5 hours.

Thanks.

Can someone who can read French well tell me how to check the remaining minutes on the website maxicall.fr?

I can only see how to purchase, not anyplace to type in the code for a minute check.
