If you won the lottery and could travel wherever and whenever would you get fed up?
I have often thought that half the fun of holidays is the anticipation. If I won millions I would spend my time travelling. However I have wondered if you could get "fed up"- am I alone in this? And isn't it kind of sad to think like this?

Fiona I saw that too!
It was weird and I was really surprised at some of the rankings!
I'd travel a lot more months out of the year but would still spend at least 50% of my time here in the UK, friends and family are very important to me, and much as I am addicted to travel, it wouldn't be fun 100% of the time.
In the other 50% I'd be able to travel in business class and then travel much as I do now but staying longer in places.
There are so many places I know I wouldn't get bored for at least the first 10 years.
If i was travelling full time I know I'd get fed up very quickly...

I suppose that if traveling constantly involved moving from place to place every few days, I might get tired of it eventually. But if I could travel to a place I like, stay there and get acclimated (for perhaps a month or two) and then move on to somewhere else and stay for a long time, I think I could do that forever.

It would be fantastic to win the lottery and travel whenever and wherever you want. If you get tired of it, you could just stay put for a while somewhere fabulous or go back home for a while and then off again when you are ready. You could surprise family and friends and take them with you for some of your travels. The best part would be not having to squeeze it all in two or three weeks. It would be the ultimate leisure activity. I've go to run out now and buy my tickets for the big one!

It's not really that "daft" a question. Research has shown that quite a few big winners have ended up wishing that they had never won as much money as all the anticipation has gone. It seems hard to believe. Frankly I have no time for those who bleat about money not changing how they live. Why bother entering the lottery in the first place? I hope I would make the most of a lottey win by travelling all over the place. You could then "gamble" a bit over your choices. Lets face it, if you don't like it, it's not that big a deal!Like Mari, I think you would enjoy surprising family and friends with holidays as well.
A great post for a Monday!!

I like the way Kavey thinks! Hadn't thought of it, but that would be my preference if I hit the lottery--I'd travel more frequently, but travel first class (at least on the flight portion, I don't think I'd care to stay at large, impersonal hotels).
I'd also take my friends!

I would definitely take my friends!
We would travel in First Class and stay for long periods of time, to get over the jet lag and relax and get really "into" the place. Say, a villa in Tuscany, Provence, where we would visit people who already have homes there, wander the places that you would not ordinarily go because there isn't time on your two week or less holiday. With all that money, there is all the time in the world!
I think the anticipation would change, still in the planning, but it would just be on a different level..at least I would like to find out~

I also saw the programme about the 50 places to see before you die and could not believe some of them. Disneyland at number 3??? And 2 places I'd never even heard of. And what happened to Hong Kong? If you didn't see it, can you guess what the number one place was? (CLUE- think big!!!!)

Mel...don't forget that we are friends!!
I too love my nest and while I would travel a bit more and would do the flight portion first class..it's still fun to stay at favorite places and take along family or friends who might not be able to go otherwise. I have a great friend who I would love to go off to Italy with to do all the great cooking classes !what fun we would have !!
There would still be anticipation..it would just be so much easier without budget wories!

Thinking about this is much more fun than the work I should be doing!
I think it would take me an incredibly long time before I'd tire of travelling...I would pop home when I feel the need--and then go back into the world and try out a new locale.
As for my travelling style, I think I'd want to rent wonderful villas or flats in various cities or towns vs. moving around constantly. When I got tired of a place, I could just move on. Maybe I stay in a place at least long enough to take some history classes in a local university or if in Italy, some cooking classes. I'm certain I'd want to spend some of my days in language school and nights in the pubs practicing my newly aquired skills...Perhaps w/my extra time, I could do some good instead of just living a wonderfully hedonistic lifestyle ;-)
One thing that might get to me is missing the stability and security of having those I love nearby. I'd worry about how I could maintain the friendships I already have as I gain new friends from around the world. Would it change me as a person?? (Of course, with all those millions, I could always have the dear old friends join me from time to time!) I'd probably miss sharing the day-to-day stuff w/my friends and family, but somehow, I'd figure out a way to keep the distance from being a factor.
Hmmm, think I'll end here and go pick up a few lottery tickets. If I win, I'll post again and tell you how manage such a dilemma!

Riches are best enjoyed when shared with others...
What about WITH whomever??!!!
Or better yet, should you get fed up travelling, may I take your place travelling while you get over getting fed up? he he!...just a thought!
That would be one of the best "dilemmas"...not being able to stop travelling!...alas, a luxury I cannot afford

Don't believe I'd ever get fed up. Friends can't believe I can travel for five months at a time, often staying two and three nights at a place and not get tired. But each time I do it, I almost hate to come home. No, I wouldn't get tired of traveling.
