Ideas for things to do in Copenhagen
Hi all-
I'm going to Copenhagen 11/12-17 and would welcome recommendations for things to check out. Unfortunately that is the time Tivoli Gardens will be closed but I plan to check out the Christmas Market in Nyhaven.
I hear Malmo is worth checking out. I appreciate any other ideas especially for good places to experience the cuisine.
Thanks!

I was there in spring so the experience might be different, but King's Park is great to sit and people watch, especially on a Friday afternoon when people bring beer to the park after work.
For lunch, try one of the smorrebrod shops. They're everywhere but some of the famous ones like Schonnemann might require reservations.
I didn't go to Malmo. I went to Helsingor to see Hamlet's castle which is just across from Helsingborg if you want to visit Sweden.

Day trip to either (or both) Louisiana Museum of Modern Art and/or Frederiksborg Castle. In town, we enjoyed several museums - Glyptoteket; Hirschsprung; National Museum - and the various castles.
We took one of the "free" walking tours and also spent half a day at the Carlsberg Brewery - in addition to a couple of samples, the restaurant served really good food.
Both Copenhagen Street Food and the Torvehallerne Market are more than worthwhile.

There's nothing worthwhile seeing in Mälmo. You're better off taking the ferry from Helsingoer to Helsingborg and if you are after a great restaurant, I can recommend Sillen & Makrill especially if you like seafood. You'll need a taxi from the port to get there.

In Copenhagen I can recommended Restaurant Radio & Brasserie Degas. Hornbæk is a nice small town to walk around with a beach & gorgeous beach villas, I've walked on that beach in all weathers, snow included.

For something different trek over to Christiana - the so-called Free Town and relic of the 1970s communes - now gentrified a bit and said to be Denmark's 4th most visited site by tourists.

I was in Copenhagen last fall and visited Roskilde on kja's recommendation - very nice....both the cathedral and the Viking Museum.
Also I went to the two castles mentioned above outside of town.
I took a walking tour in Christiana - the guide was one of the original settlers (or possibly squatters)...really informative....
Tivoli didn't thrill me but it was included in the Copenhagen Card so I went....basically in and out....
The Copenhagen Card for five days was a good deal for me....
Enjoy!

Christian has several highly acclaimed restaurants. In novel settings.

It depends on what you like, but if history interests you, consider visiting the Palace reception rooms. Ornate, good tour guides and interesting bits of history. Also, for art: Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek is near the train station, significant building with a varied art collection including a comprehensive Egypt section (mummies, etc.)
And, you can always do a canal boat trip - sit indoors & bundle up!

If you want to visit Sweden, consider Lund, which can be easily reached from Copenhagen.
The Viking ship museum in Roskilde is worth a visit, if you like that sort of thing. We also enjoyed very much the open air museum at Lejre, which has reconstructed prehistoric dwellings and recreations of ancient crafts, as well as domesticated animals that have been back bred to resemble those of prehistoric times. I don't know if it's open at that time of year.
I second the recommendation of the castle at Helsingor, quite apart from its associations with Hamlet.

For a day trip, I'd consider renting a car and doing Frederiksborg and Helsingor. You can get to both by public transit, but a car will be much faster and will let you do both in a single day. I also really like Roskilde. I don't see any reason to go to Malmo.

Well, my favorite restaurant in Copenhagen is Geranium, which is truly exceptional. It is also absurdly expensive, even by Copenhagen standards.
Kodbyen Fiskebar is also worth a visit. I also really, really love Restaurant Kofoed - great food, service, and setting - I have eaten there more than any other Copenhagen restaurant. If you want to experience noma's kid brother, check out 108 (I haven't eaten there, but the pedigree and reviews are top notch). Aamans is good for smorrebrod. Royal Smushi is also a decent spot for more inventive smorrebrod.
