So my week in Barcelona has been cancelled. I'm booked to stay on Lake Como till 2nd August, then I have over a week till I need to be in Paris, and I'm looking for ideas/suggestions on where to go?
It's myself and my 12 year old son. I don't want to hire a car, as I'm not confident to drive on the wrong side of the road, scary small roads etc. so, it's public transport accessible places only.
I'm very aware that it's the high season, and thus extremely busy, but can anyone suggest anywhere that will still be pleasant? Smaller, out of the way is fine. I'm open to beachside, or Provence, I know very little about France. Budget for accom roughly €100 per day.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
Ideas for south of France?

Hi F,

I would train to Colmar for 3 nights and then to Strasbourg for 3 nights before heading to Paris.
You might also wish to consider Lucerne or Basel.
Enjoy your visit.
Not in Provence but why not a Disney Paris treat? Would your 12 yr old appreciate that?
I like Ira's suggestions. Your son might enjoy Disney Paris but certainly not for a whole week!
Beachside will be jammed in August. Getting to Provence from Como is a pain, and then you have to get back to Paris. Do as ira says to cut down on the distances. Alsace is a great area for exploring (though best if you do have a car - but if coming from a country where they drive on the left I can appreciate the difficulty) and not a long train ride back to Paris.
Both Colmar (a favorite of mine) and Basel are very nice towns.
I would agree with Ira on these two places.
