Ideas for 4 days Switzerland in Jan from Lucerne to Geneva

Jump to last reply

I will be traveling with a family of 4 through Switzerland over 4 days/3 nights. We are coming from Germany and plan to drop off a rental car in Konstanz, Germany and aim to be in Geneva 3 days later to make a train to Paris (evening train). We would like to see as much scenary/get a feel of Switzerland as possible in our short-time there. Hopefully at least go up one mountain but otherwise just visit small villages.

On our first day, I was thinking of using the car to drive to Appenzell before going to Konstanz. From there, we will take a train to Lucerne to stay overnight. From here, we are pretty flexible and I would like some ideas. I heard Montreux is a nice place to visit (with also milder weather), so I was thinking of staying there on our last night before catching a train to Geneva the last day. Any suggestions on where to stay for our second night? Maybe Interlaken?

Also, any suggestions on trains? I've been looking up trains online and it seems to depend on whether we want the quickest path from Lucern to Montreux or take a longer (possibly more scenic) route that would be similar to the Golden Pass line. We are open to any suggestions--just want to have a nice 4 days in Switzerland without too much rushing! Thank you!
