IcelandAir strict about baggage allowance?

Hello,
My husband and I are leaving this Thursday for Iceland! We are camping around Iceland for 12 days and are trying to pack. We noticed the IcelandAir baggage allowance and noticed that the carry on allowance is only 13 lbs! We were planning on packing as much as possible in our carry ons. Does anyone know if IcelandAir is strict about their carry on policy? It seems rather limited!

Thanks in advance for any assistance!
Melissa

That's fairly standard with European airlines. You definitely need to check your luggage.

Thanks rkkwan. We normally don't have camping gear and therefore don't have so much luggage!
I appreciate your response.

If the plane is at full capacity I would expect they will ask you to weigh any questionable luggage as AirCanada did to us last year. The airlines seem to be giving more restrictions to those of us not flying business or first class. They have also lowered the weight allowance on checked luggage from 70 to 50.

If I were planning on camping I would want as many creature comforts as possible especially as Iceland is seldom balmy. Down comforters sound quite cozy

We loved Iceland, hope you have a great trip. Deborah

Another reason why it's likely Icelandair will be tough on carry-ons is that they use single-aisle 757s for their Atlantic routes. The baggage bins are pretty small, and luggage space-to-passenger ratio is much lower than on widebodied-aircrafts.
