Iceland: whitewater river kayaking?
I'm planning a trip to Iceland in late July or early August and would like to spend a day paddling whitewater. So far all I've seen online are rafting, canoeing, and sea kayaking. When I've contacted these tour groups they all say the same thing: we don't offer whitewater and we don't know where you would find any info. Yet I've seen youtube videos of people whitewater paddling in rivers in Iceland, so I know it's being enjoyed by the locals. Can anyone tell me how to go about finding a place that rents whitewater equipment, and could provide info about rivers to paddle?

Hi Martha
I had the same problem finding a company in Iceland, offering white water kayaking in late July and beginning of August (best season), but I think I have found some one offering such trips. It is a company in the northwestern Iceland at Varmalid called Viking Rafting. Here is their link: http://www.vikingrafting.com/ContactUs/. You can just phone them (telephone number on the web site) and make an appointment with them. They'll, of course, ask you about your experience with kayaking. I got an appointment with them for a trip after July 20 so maybe we'll meet there.
