Heading to Iceland in August and was curious what outfitter/travel agency to use? We plan on spending 8-10 days and want an active trip plus drive around the ring with numerous stops, but not sure how to plan the trip. Looking for advice. We are very active hikers if that helps.Thanks.

Hi there

I used www.tour.is for my self drive tour where me and my family drove the ring road around Iceland. They had a lot of different self drive packages with different duration and at decent price compared to other agency's that I looked into.
I highly recommend to do the full circle around the island as the landscapes and sites vary between regions. This was honestly the best vacation I have ever been on.
tour.is answered all my e-mails almost instantaneously and did a fantastic job in helping me plan my vacation in Iceland.
Hope you have a great time in Iceland
Iceland is a great place for hiking. So, you definitely have chosen the right vacation spot. We did not use a travel agent on our trip last summer, but found that we had no trouble filling our days (and into the evenings) with many interesting hikes. We had a fantastic time.
If you are looking to save money, I would recommend renting a car and setting up your accommodations on your own. We stayed in hostels (booked online) and rented a car with gps to travel around the ring and found the trip very relaxing and exciting. With a good guide book to help you select the most interesting spots (for you), you could easily plan out your dream vacation.
One very important thing to note is that there is hiking everywhere in Iceland. So, if you have an adventurous spirit the whole country is your hiking trail. I would not venture into the interior without a guide/tour company unless you are knowledgeable about the terrain, but the ring road provides many opportunities for a thrilling outdoor experience.
Happy travels!
