Iceland New Year's Eve

Jump to last reply

New Year's Eve in Iceland has been brought to my attention as a possibility. I have only a few days for the holiday and I am intrigued by Iceland's beauty. But I am unsure about New Year's Eve events.

1. How are the New's Year's Eve festivities? For those that went, what was the highlight? Would you go again? Why or why not? Was the experience more like a drunken frat party (lots of young people, crowded streets) or did it have an atmospheric flare? (I have been to Times Square once. Good experience, but do not need to repeat it :)

2. Would a independent, single traveler need to join a group on New Year's eve, or is everything open to the public?

3. Recommended Hostel/Hotel for New Year's....to meet others or see fireworks.

4. Lastly, what should I expect to pay for a flight from JFK? I am currently being quoted $675 w/ taxes roundtrip (6 days total in Iceland).

Thanks for any input. :)
