Iceland Driving Plans

Jump to last reply

We are planning a week in Iceland the first week of July.

We will have a couple of days in Reykjavic, then on to southern parts for 3 days near Hella. Then we have a flight from Egilsstadir back to Reykjavic such that we have 2 nights after Hella to get up there.

Trying to decide if it makes sense to do that drive from south to east in one day and stay the 2 nights in one place in the east fjords or break it up and stay one night in each of two places.

We are renting a conventional car in Rekyavik and dropping it at Egilsstadir airport. Our flight is at 10:40 in the morning.

Google maps says the driving time is about 6.5 hours. Daylight will be long though. Not sure the condition of roads along the coast. Also, having trouble finding available acccomodation around southern coast.

Any thoughts that would help us decide one way or another would be most appreciated.
