Friends going to Iceland, via a cruise which gives them two days. What are the top few things they should do. Does anyone have a private driver with car/van who can do a tour or go to a far away glacier?

1) go to a public spa (the Blue Pool is the big drawer, since every town has one try a normal one)
2) Go to see the Thing (there are loads of people offering the Golden tour)
3) Go ride an Icelandic horse with their unique gait (only for the saddle happy) you have to have a spa after this
4) Walk down through the capital eating the local food and shopping, see government house, the art galleries, the cathedral, the view over the sound.
Just one little hint, the Hop-on-Hop-Off bus stops at the cruise terminal so it can be used to get to downtown and some of the museums.
We got back from a cruise about 10 days back, spent 2 days in Reykjavik and 1 in Akureyri. The first day we did a private superjeep Golden Circle tour with IGTours (info@igtours.is), almost 10 hours, including the glacier, the 4x4 could seat 7 plus the driver/guide and we paid about $130pp. Several others from our ship did tours in vans to seat 13, much cheaper, though they didn't get to the glacier. I did quite a bit of research and found IGTours to be the best value for money.
The 2nd day we spent at the Blue Lagoon and saw a bit of Reykjavik.
In Akureyri too we got a full day private tour (taxi@taxi-no17.com).
Suggest your friends get on their ship's roll call to find others who'd like to join them, this is what we did, works best.
