I Need Suggestions on How to Do the Impossible!!

Hi All
I have a small problem here! I will lay out the European itinerary briefly as it exists now. Four adults arrive Paris 11AM 7 July. Depart Genoa (actually Savona) 5PM on the 10th of July for a 7-day Med cruise. Arrive back in Savona 9AM on the 17th (Sunday). Depart Paris for US around noon on the 20th of July.
Now - I would really like to see some of Normandy - and spend a couple of hours at Dachau (Munich). Obviously - one problem is (aside from the usual of trying to do too much in the allotted time) is distance between Munich/Paris, or Munich/Savona. Normandy is doable from Paris when we get there I guess. Now am wondering whether it should be done on the back side of the cruise. Is there a TGV anywhere close to Genoa - that goes to Paris. Is there one from Munich to somewhere around Savona. I am having difficulty trying to run down train schedules. Are we going to have to dump Dachau (dumping Normandy is not an option).
Maybe forget Germany and spend the last day or two messing around Switzerland enroute back to Paris. What is the name of that really tall mountain peak (the one with the tunnel). Im sorry - this thing is really disjointed - but I have been looking at train schedules for quite a while.
Any and all suggestions appreciated - except those pertaining to re-scheduling the cruise or plane tickets. It had to be done on those days for reasons that don't apply here. Thanks in advance for any commentary.

I think you may wnat to check out flying from one point to the next to get there in time then you can side trip from the airports.

Is the mountain peak with the tunnel "Mont Blanc"?... (probably more than one tall peak with a tunnel, though..)

On the front end, I don't think you should try working anything in, other than a day in Paris and a day getting to Genoa - you certainly don't want any unforeseen events keeping you from the cruise. I'm not even sure about "Normandy" on the back end - you could get to Paris late on the 17th, head for Normandy on the 18th, come back to Paris the 19th to leave on the 20th. I've read that you need to rent a car to easily get around the main sites of Normandy.

There is really no time to go to Munich/Dachau, imo.

You want to do Paris and Normandy, AND Munich and Dachau w/ just over 2 days at both ends of a cruise out of GENOA? Plus you have travel in some order Paris > Genoa > Munich > Paris

Not a realistic plan. A Med cruise is not convenient for Normandy/Paris/Munich. And flying into/out of Paris is not convenient for a Med cruise.

I'd just re-think the whole thing. it is a mess right now.

Hi S,

If you have already booked your cruise and your airline, you will have enough on your plate doing Paris-Genoa-Paris without adding anything else.

I think this is kind of a mess, also, but it sounds like you had to go to Normandy so that's why you chose that airport? Yes, you can get to Normandy (I presume you mean the WWII battlefield or cemetery by that, not just Normandy in general) from Paris for a day or so, if you really want. YOu could do that when you are fresh, like July 8-9. Maybe I missed it in your itinerary, but how do you expect to get to Genoa from Paris at the beginning of this trip?

I guess you have two days between cruis return and your flight back home, so you cannot tour Germany and/or Switzerland etc in that time frame when you mainly have to get from Italy to Paris.

TGV is the name of a French train, so there aren't any in Germany or Italy. However, in those two days, you could take the train from Genoa to Avignon France one day, and get the TGV from there to Paris the next (which is only a few hours from Avignon). Or, you get just go to Nice, and take the train all the way from there to Paris the following day. They call that a TGV on schedules, I think, but it's only highspeed on the line past Marseille or around there, so it takes about 6-7 hours total train time from Nice to Paris.

I don't see how you can do major traveling of another country or Normandy when you need to just get from Genoa to Paris, mainly. Maybe you should just fly to Paris from Milan to save time.
