I need info on types of places to stay and what you think is best for us

Jump to last reply

Except for Canada, I haven't been out of America, so I'm unfamiliar with the details & experiences of the various types of places one can stay in Europe & elsewhere. Have only stayed in a lot of motels/hotels in the U.S., & a couple Bed 'n' Breakfasts.

Places to stay in Iceland that I'm aware of: hotels, hostels, camping, caravaning, & some kind of farmhouse/guesthouse situation. Which would be best for us?...a very quiet married couple that want to remain together and preferably deal with as few drinkers as possible (nothing personal, it's just that a quiet sober me has an impossible time conversing with drunk people, and I prefer a non-chaotic atmosphere).

Camping & caravaning are out.

Hotels might work. I'm guessing they provide the most privacy/quiet, but cost the most? Are they similar to U.S. hotel/motels? Do you have your own bathroom? Are there very many in the outlaying areas of Iceland? (we won't be staying in Reykjavik at all)

A hostel could work, but I'm guessing they're noisier, married couples are often seperated, & it's a shared bathroom situation? All are different, but are there any typical traits for Iceland?

And farmhouse/guesthouses...I know nothing about.

We're also going to Ireland afterward, so if you're talkative feel free to talk about places to stay there also.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
