Hvar, Croatia road

I have read several post about how terrifying the road is from Sucuraj to Hvar.

Then I found a 2006 post that reads "The drive on the new road on Hvar is just fine, it's the road down the "spine" of Hvar you want to avoid!"

I can not find any other information about this road. Is it in on the north or south side of the island. Has anyone else driven it?

Tight, narrow, twisty, and occasionally exposed. But thousands drive it every year and survive! The driver will not be able to do any sightseeing. Maybe one of you could drive one way and the other drive back so you can both enjoy the view.

Ackislander thanks for your reply. Are you talking about the road down the spine or the new road along the coast?

I can only reiterate what I said in prior posts I think the trip from Hvar to Sucuraj is a breeze and that is from a perspective of a couple of major personal issues. I went on scooter after not riding one since Indonesia in 1977,plus my wife was a unsure pillion passenger and the road rules in Australia are we drive on the left hand side. I did not know there was a coastal road but the hilly bits are pretty tame but could give the unsure driver a little trepidation. The biggest problem is the view is so good the mind wanders. Do not miss Vrboska or jelsa.

I have to agree with the previous post that the road is not all that bad. We drove it just last week and had no problems. The road is quite curvy and narrow. But, take your time and you'll be fine. The only problem I had was because I was the passenger and my husband was having far too much fun driving the road!!
