How to order tapas in Barcelona
What don't I understand? A tour company just quoted me $160 US dollars , a couple, to join a walking tour in Barcelona for 2-3 hours to LEARN HOW TO ORDER TAPAS. There must be something I do not realize about tapas! ???
Thanks!

No, it's pretty simple if you know how to order appetizers. But I am guessing that the walking tour will encompass several showstoppers of architecture, culminating in a lunch of tapas. Some tapas places, thinking of Ciudad Central (believe that's it, in the University area) have several on view atop counter (behind glass) from which to pick which makes it even easier. Do your own research and bring along a guide with common word/phrase translations. This is why we don't do tours......

What a rip off.
This is what you do:
1. Walk into any bar
2. Point at something that looks tasty and ask for one (Uno por favor)
3. Order a beer or wine.
4. Pay.
5. Eat your tapas and drink your beverage.
6. Go to the next bar.
7. Wash, rinse, repeat.
Do it correctly and you'll hit 7-12 places and spend less than 20 Euro per person.

Nice piece, Albiqui (though I think you mean sherry, not cherry...and shandy, not sandy).
Everywhere in the world that hosts tourists offers completely unneeded rip-off tours for people who can't or don't want to explore and figure things out on their own.

First, choose a good tapas restaurant (not a touristic one!), then enter, order or choose directly at the bar, eat, and pay.
And that's all !
Sagardi and el Golfo de Bizkaia make good and gastronomic tapas, not very expensive, and you pay only what you eat, by the number of toothpicks you have in your plate !

Yes, the toothpick system is in place in some bars. There may be a lot of choices on the bar, you order a drink and get a plate, pick what you want to eat. When finished, you are charged by the number of toothpicks on your plate (they will tell you the per toothpick price when you get the plate if you ask).
