How to have fun on an 11 Night Holy Land Cruise + Amsterdam 2012

Jump to last reply

I’ve read so many blogs with this site and others, But is there a way to
Have “Fun” on a Holy land Cruise (with your mom)?
This will be my First flight on airplane, traveling to Europe with my mom (+ her friends).
We would land in Rome 10/6 then sail with Royal Caribbean Mariner of the Seas Cruises Ship. 10/10 The ports are:
Civitavecchia (Rome) Italy,5pm leave Alexandria (Cairo) Egypt(2days 7am-7pm) Ashdod Israel (2days 10am-10pm), Piraeus (Athens)Greece(10am-6pm) Naples Italy 7am-6:30pm then flying over to Amsterdam for 4 days. So overwhelming, especially traveling with older people! Sticking with groups can sometimes be really tough!!!!

Since this is my first Adventure abroad- I don’t know how to pack for 17days—What size suitcase to purchase? How many suitcases to bring along to bring back goods. How many shoes to bring and outfits to pack. I’m learning about weight restrictions. Also cell-phone coverage over-seas. How to exchange currency, Understanding money. I even thought about purchasing an electric translator online, if my cell doesn’t work overseas. So I can understand the language.

I want to share this voyage with my mom, but want to see and do modern things without getting lost. I’m a huge “Foodie” I’m curious about the markets & street foods. I want to see Vineyards, shop for leather and other goods. Being a New Yorker I’m used to language barriers in big cities having worked in NYC in the hospitality industry for so many years. I’m still having a hard time helping my mom picking out a flight & hotel in Rome & Amsterdam without spending a fortune

I know the feeling and frustration tourist feel when not understanding cultural differences. So I want to be prepared. I hope any suggestions I get from anyone who has been on this Voyage, can help me feel at ease…
