Can anyone tell me how to get to Ponte Sisto Hotel, Via Dei Pettinari 64 00196 Rome in the City Center from the Train Station? We will be arriving from Paris on the overnight train. Can we take the metro? How long is the ride? Thank you

No metro to that area. You can Google map the location to see where it is. There is an H bus that goes from Termini and stops on the other side of the Ponte Garibaldi (easy to recognize since the bus crosses the Tiber on that bridge). If you are traveling light, it's just a few blocks to the hotel.

No, the metro does not go anywhere near there.

You can take a bus to Largo Argentina and walk the 1/2 mi to your hotel, or take a taxi.

I'd just take a taxi. For 2 people with luggage plan on around 15 euros, plus or minus. It's about a 10min ride by taxi. A little longer if there's traffic.

At the Termini only take a licensed taxi from the que which can be long but moves fast. Ignore those who approach to solicit you and are willing to negotiate the fare. Not only are they not licensed the negotiated price is usually MORE than the metered ride in a licensed taxi.

Perhaps. Some overnight trains used to operate out of Tiburtina.

If you want to use public transport, you can enter your route (enter stazione termini for your start if that's your station) on Rome's transit website and it will tell you which bus number and map the route.

FYI - Bus #64 is the pickpocket special because so many tourists use it.

I don't think I'd take my luggage on a bus after an overnight train ride, especially a bus in a big city. You're likely to be sleepy, and you have to be alert and guard both your luggage and your wallet or handbag. Just take a taxi.

Please note, the meter will have one price on it and the driver will tack on a set amount for your luggage. It used to be E1 per bag, but I don't know the current rate. Anyone? This is typical, and not a ripoff. Standard practice in Rome.

I also agree- best to just take a cab to hotel.

If you enter Trastevere on the ATAC link instead of your destination, you do get the H bus as suggested by Michael. I would take the H bus over the 64. You will be able to get just as close to your destination. I use public transport all the time when I'm in Rome including taking luggage on buses/subways/trams.

How I envy you Americans your directness!

But even if in their pokiest room and on some super-deal, after 15 hours on the train, who would want to go looking for bus or Metro tickets to save 13 Euro or less?

Some people like to be green and use public transport. It has nothing to do with the price of a room.

We probably will take a taxi. As far as affording the Ponte Sisto, we searched the web and found a very good deal at that hotel so we are probably not paying top dollar. We do like to save money on some things and use it on other things that we really want to do. We are by no means well off! We do bargin hunt and are usually quite successful in it. It does sound that the hotel we are staying at is a good one. My husband spent many days looking. I am not sure what station we are arriving at but we are taking the overnight train which we have a sleeper on - again we searched to find a good price. Fodors has been very helpful in planning our trip to Paris and Rome. We have found that we definitely need more time in each city - we will do what we can and save the rest for another time - gives me an excuse to get my husband to go again! Thanks for all the suggestions. We do appreciate them.

With bags and not knowing the city, you'll find the taxi ride a nice way to get a quick idea of what's where...
