How to get to Appenzell from Memmington and then on to Lucerne

Is there a train that runs this route? We would like to leave on a Thursday late afternoon or early Friday morning to travel to Appenzell. There we will spend one night before going to Lucerne. We have 2 to 3 days before we need to get to Zurich for a flight. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
