How to get tickets to the Military Tattoo?

We are just starting to plan our trip to Scotland for August of 2006. (Wish we would have started earlier!!). I noticed that the Military Tattoo is completely sold out on its website. I understand that tour companies have blocks of tickets.

Does anyone have any information on any tour companies or hotels that have one-day or 2-day Edinburgh tour packages that would include tickets to the Military Tattoo?? Since we can't buy our own tickets, maybe we can join a tour group to get in.

Thanks for any insights!

I just posted this question about 10 minutes ago and am puzzled as to why it is not appearing when I search for Scotland. It comes up under Europe and under United Kingdom. But after I type Scotland in the search box and hit search, it doesn't show up. Anyone know why??

There is only one forum -- Europe.

If you clicked on United Kingdom that merely lets folks search for things about the UK (but never assume all UK threads will display - because MANY people do not click on a country before posting).

But clicking on a country is entirely different than searching for something using the search function. For posts to show up w/ a search they must first be indexed by Fodors. It can take hours to weeks for things to be indexed.

The best way to find your own posts is to click on your name.

Janis,

Thanks for the explanation and the link. I think I may have some luck finding some hotels packages with tickets using that link.

If anyone else know so of another way to find tickets to the Military Tattoo, please let me know.

Thanks!

Friends of ours got tickets from ebay last year which were delivered somehow to their hotel. There were lots to choose from -even in July.

We are also going this year. We ordered our tickets online on Dec. 1st which was the first day they were available. By the time I was able to connect with the site some of the tix were already sold out! I hear it's a great event so keep trying- you'll find a way.

Are you sure they are completely sold out, I'm in Edinburgh & a few days ago the Tattoo folk said that weekend tickets had sold out but that there was still some for weekdays & they didn't expect the last tickets to go until March.

The official website is:
http://www.edinburgh-tattoo.co.uk/tickets/index.html

It seems they only have tickets for restricted views left. Those tickets are half the price of normal tickets, if I am not mistaken.

You can also call the tattoo shop at: 0044 8707 555118

Although the view is restricted, you can still soak in the tattoo atmosphere, and it can be an enriching experience in itself.
