How to get from Sorrento to Calitri
I will be traveling to Sorrento in October. I am interested in going to Calitri (where my mother's family is from) but I don't know which is the best way to get there. Is there a train from Sorrento to Calitri? Or since I don't want to drive is there a way to hire someone who can drive me?

Elizabeth, On my map there appears to be a train station just outside Calitri. Call a travel agent. The have all the European train schedules and get new updated ones quarterly. I doesn't look too far to drive with a good road map either. Good luck.

That link says there is train service and there isn't. You will have to take a bus from Naples to Avellino and change to a bus to Calitri. I think you would need to stay a night instead of a day trip as it would take over an hour by train from Sorrento to Naples, about an hour or so from Naples to Avellino and about 2 1/2 hours from Avellino to Calitri. I wouldn't attempt this on a Sunday as many buses don't run on Sundays or have very limited schedules.

Folks - the thread is FIFTEEN years old -- What on earth is going on here this weekend?<<
The OP is that long ago, but JD70's is from today. I don't see what your problem is janis. If you don't want to see any old threads, hang out on TA. Many people that were on here that long ago are still on here and still answering questions. You don't know that Elizabeth isn't and I'm sure this turned up in a search JD did for Calitri. I'm sure there are darn few threads on Calitri to browse.
JD - Your post is fine here especially since the OP (original post) is asking for the exact the info you were wanting. If you have other Italy questions, you might want to start some threads of your own with a specific title.

kybourbon,
There is a train service to Calitri. You go to Avellino and switch to a commuter train, similiar to the way one gets to Sorrento.

However, the link I provided urges bus travel from Naples, which looks more efficient to me that taking the train from Naples to Avellino and the bus from there.
janisj,
The links I provided give a lot of useful information about how to get to Calitri. I suspect you are picking on poor JD as a vendetta against other unnamed people. Real question is what on earth is going on with you most of the time? What difference does it make if new people sign up and research the archives and ask questions in old threads? Nobody needs a Fodor's travel thread nanny. Free discussion is fine. Try to let go, would you?

Mimar,
I get the impression reading kybourbon's comments to janisj that this kind of interruption isn't an "again" but sort of a constant from janisj.
JD (and kybourbon),
My mistake. The train station in Calitri is closed!
