Will be staying in Lucca for three nights and want to travel to Montalcino, Montepulciano, Volterra (and general area) plus Chianti region. We won't have a car. Can we do this from Lucca? What's the best way? Don't know how to plan this.

Not sure why you have posted the same question twice?
You'd need a private guide/driver. Just the drive Lucca-Montalcino-Montepulciano-Lucca is about 5 hours. Volterra is at least 90 minutes each way without detours into the 'general area.' Even a cursory 'tour' of Chianti would involve over 3 hours of driving.
Why did you pick Lucca if you want to see these other places?

It was a dumb mistake. I apologize.
Jean is right. I know Tuscany looks small on a map, but it's actually enormous and it takes a long time to get between places on the often narrow winding roads. Lucca is beautiful (I live nearby
) and I'd definitely recommend spending a couple of days there, but it would be better to move to the Val d'Orcia area to see the hill towns. Otherwise, either omit the hill towns and explore the Lucca area more slowly and fully or take Jean's advice and hire a driver.

Lucca does not have transport to southern Tuscany for day trips. You might be able to book a tour from Florence or Pisa that would include some of these places. It would take 3-4 hours to reach Montalcino by public transport from Lucca. Ditto for Montepulciano. I would pick Siena for a base as it is closer to all the places you listed.
