How to get from London to Cotswolds

Am going to be in London for a week in September. Would really like to see the Cotswolds but do not want to rent a car. Is it possible to get there from London via train and then walk, or ride bikes? Could this be a day trip or overnight?--I have no idea the distance between London and the Cotswolds. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

You cannot do the Cotswolds justice with a one day trip, especially if you are doing it on your own via train or bus. You can easily get there by either of those means from London, but it is the getting around the various towns that will take you time. If you have the luxury of a couple of free days may I suggest an alternative that will be so much nicer, leisurely and give you a better chance to see this lovely area of England. Your hotel concierge will be able to get you a fistful of brochures on various half day, full day or several day tours that originate in London and return back to London at tour end. I have seen these brochures on a number of occasions and have noted the fact there are several circle tours of the Cotswolds and my recollection is they are two dayers with an overnight stay at a pub/hotel thick in the midst of the Cotswolds. These mini tours are good value for the money and for the reluctant driver such as yourself, provide the best means of being where you want to be without the hassle of worrying about how to get to and back from there! Go for it, and good luck!! Lanny

Cottage rental in rural england. I would appreciate any leads as to reputable agencies that handle the above rentals, especially in the Cotswald area.

We rented a car and did a one day tour which was rushed, but very worthwhile and enjoyable. Driving really wasn't that difficult, but then we are used to driving on the "wrong" side of the road from previous trips in the Caribbean and elsewhere.
