I fly into Florence around 5pm and am staying in the city - Hotel Pedini. What is the best, least expensive, simpliest way to get from the airport to the hotel. I've seen prices of about $100 by car.
How to get from FLorence airport to the city

In May, we took a cab from the airport to our hotel near the Duomo. It cost us €25.
The airport is very close to the city. Take a cab. Last time we flew from Florence, it was about a 10 - minute cab ride.
You have two options. The taxi is as described, about 25 euros and can have additional charge for luggage--it will get you closest to your hotel (Piazza Republica?). The other option is to take the shuttle bus to the SMN train station in downtown Florence, 5 euro pp. No charge for luggage and you will be very close to your destination but will have to schlepp your bags which can be a challenge even over short distances.
FWIW-we have taken the shuttle bus on many occasions and it has always been convenient for downtown residences.
We were in Florence last year and took the shuttle from the airport.
When you walk out of the terminal look to the right and just across the street. There's a bus booth there.
I don't remember the price but was very inexpensive. The bus lets you off right beside the train station.
Depending upon your luggage you can either take a taxi or it's a 10 minute walk.
If you're then going back to the Florence airport, the bus station for the shuttle is in a building just on the opposite side of the train station.
<<I've seen prices of about $100 by car.>>
Wow. Where are you seeing those prices? That would be a total ripoff.
You have received great advice from the posters above.
Enjoy your trip!
Taxi's are all 20 Euros flat rate from the airport to any hotel in central Florence (within ZTL which Hotel Pedini certainly lies). Oh, there might be a 2-3 Euros per suitcase/bag which would explain how some have paid 25 in total.
