Help! I am having a hard time finding transportation options (mainly train) for getting from Prague to Vilnius. We are traveling in August and I understand most trains do not release tickets until 60 days before the departure date, but I can't find prices or routes or even where to book, especially for Lithuania. It seems to get very complicated going from Poland into Lithuania? A lot of the web sites are in their countries' respective languages. Aside from airfair, which is so expensive, I am not having much luck. Does anyone have any good, relatively easy to use web sites for travel between either of these cities? Thank you for any help!

The fastest route is 17hrs total
Train - Prague to Bohumin (4hrs), 30min connection
Train - Bohumin to Warsaw (4hrs)
Walk to bus station (15min) (15min total connection time)
Bus - 10hrs to Vilnius
Numerous other routings - none of which looks terribly good. Tight connections, long trip.
Have you looked into flying? I'm seeing 98Euro (round trip) fares for a non-stop flight (2 1/2 hrs). Look at www.whichbudget.com.
Thanks so much for the information, I'll check it out. We'd prefer to fly, of course, but the flights I'd found were much more expensive than 98Euros, so thanks again! Ozzies

Whichbudget is simply a listing of links to low cost airlines - just a passthrough website. In most cases they'll take you directly to the website of the airline. For PRG - Vilnius flight they took me to some 3rd party booking site I know nothing about.
Thanks again J62, sounds like you had a good experience with them. I always feel more confident once I know other people have had success with a particular website. The tickets are SO... much cheaper than others I thought there might be something 'fishy' going on!

There is a special discounts exists for Czech-Lithuania train travel (http://europetrainsguide.com/200907167/Countries/Czech-republic/Czech-Republic-CD.html) or you might use special tariff for Warsaw-Vilnius route (app. 20 euro) - it's called "Wilno Specjal"
In the opposite direction I took the bus from Vilnius to Warsaw a few years ago on Eurolines, http://www.eurolines.com/. It is cheap and uncomfortable. At that time it was an 8 hour overnight trip. Apparently more stops have been added to the route. I think you could take a train to Suwalki and catch the bus from there to avoid some of the ordeal.
My Thomas Cook Timetable shows a train from Warsaw departing ~0730 and arriving Vilnius ~1800 with a change in Sestokai. Be careful to avoid the train route through Belarus because you will need a transit visa which may not be available at the border.
Lithuania time is one hour plus Polish time.
If you take the bus empty your bladder before getting on. There is a toilet on the bus but it was not working the time I took it. There was about a 20 minute pit stop at the border for passport control. Change money.
It will be an effort but Vilnius is worth it. The old town is the best I've seen in Europe. I stayed at Hostel Old Town for €10. The fully equipped kitchen is available for guests. The market halls are near the train station.
