How much is admission to Edinburg castle?

Planning a budget trip to Edinburgh in 2 weeks. Heard that the admission to The Castle is expensive. Can anyone tell me how much exactly it is? Thanks!
I believe it costs 8 British pounds for adults. Go to www.edinburgh.org for more information. The Castle is worth every penny.

I was there in August and I thought it would be expensive but I believe it was 8 pounds like Barbara stated. It's worth it on a cklear day as the views of the city are great and the castle is more interesting than I thought it would be.

I had visited Edinburgh several times before and missed the castle each time. I am glad I finally visited and was pleased I went.

It is 8 pounds and in my opinion, as far as castle tours go, it isn't worth it. You can get the view without having to go inside and pay for the tour and you can walk down the side into the park below without having to pay.

Having said that, you should know Im not much for strolling leisurely through museums, examining in detail historical relics . . .

Snoopy and alice are true idiots. To not go to Edinburgh Castle because it costs all of £8??!! It is a glorious place. Why go to Edinburgh at all if you are not interested in the castle? It is like going to Yosemite and not entering the park because there is an entrance fee. Unbelievable!

We were there in August and bought Scotish Tourist Card for 3 days. The price for a family was 30 pounds and if you only go to Edinburgh Castle and Stirling castle its already 30 pounds for 2 adults. We visited 5 places in 3 days and saved at least 30 pounds.
Have a nice trip
Ana

Crazy:

Thanks for pointing out thta people who don't share your identical opinion must be true idiots. They stated the reasons for their opinion and Snoopy even pointed out that he just isn't into museum type places. What's wrong with that? I respect them for their different opinions. Who is REALLY the idiot?

Hey, Crazy . . . take a chill pill.

And it's not really at all like going to Yosimite and not entering the park because of the fee. It's like going to Edinburgh Castle and walking around and taking in the view without going on the tour. For what it's worth, I've taken the tour . . . and, as I said, I'm not into the foofah that I was dragged around and shown.

You might have shown some wit and observed that the questioner never asked whether or not it was worth it. You might also have shown some common sense and noticed that the questioner said she was planning a budge trip.

Oh, well. Life must be pretty tough for you that you should resort to such goofy comments anonymously.

Snoopy the Idiot . . . I like that name!

There is absolutely no reason to take a "TOUR" of Edinburgh Castle. It costs 8GBP to get in (unless you have the great british herotage pass) but it is a place that is much better to just wander through. Me thinks Snoopy has not actually been inside if he is under the impression one must, or most people do, take a tour. And Yosemite is a very good analogy. There are other fine viewpoints in the high sierra but there is only one Yosemite Valley. Same for Edinburgh, there are many good views, but only one Castle and the view is way down the list of its high points.

Edinburgh Castle IS my favorite Castle(so far)in Europe! Do yourself a huge favor and forgo some other expenses, and tour this absoltely marvelous place. Next Sept., we are going to rent a car and tour through the UK for a few weeks, and I will be returning to Edinburgh and the wonderful Castle.
Judy

Nope. You are wrong. The Yosimite analogy is dopey considering that by your own admission the "view" is not what it's all about.

I would like to personally thank you "anotherThinkingSnoopy" for pointing out how insultingly idiotic my observations are that I didn't think the 8 pound admission fee was worth it and that my interest in the view from the castle and the view alone was my only reason for returning to Edinburgh Castle. I forgot for a moment that subjective opinion is totally worthless in a travel forum.

Perhaps you should seek me out and provide continual oversight of my activities and observations simply for my own protection . . . at least that's what 'me thinks'.

Yep, I can be rude. Particularly around fools. And I guess you fit that bill 'xxx' because you didn't pick up on the sarcasm I was venting about the "me thinks" misquote.

To your half-wit explanation of where the line comes from and your stoopnagle remark that I'm not very well read:

The line comes from Shakespeare's 'Hamlet' and it is OFTEN misquoted. It isn't "me thinks" it's "methinks" . . . all one word.

AND EDINBURGH CASTLE IS NOT WORTH THE 8 STINKING POUNDS IT COSTS TO GET IN . . . IN MY OPINION. AND ALL OF THE IDIOTIC CLAPTRAP YOU CAN SPEW WON'T CHANGE MY OPINION.

Sorry, I don't suffer fools lightly.

Where does that line come from, xxx?

My mistake . . .

The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark - Act III, Scene II

Hamlet: "Madam, how like you this play?"

Queen Gertrude: "The lady protests too much, methinks."

Hamlet: "O, but she'll keep her word."

I believe the line is:

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks"

I also think Edinburgh Castle is worth the 8 pounds.

And another . . .

http://the-tech.mit.edu/Shakespeare/hamlet/hamlet.3.2.html

eerie, are you enjoying all this? I've changed my mind. Edinburgh Castle was the most interesting place I've ever been. I have never gotten so much value for my castle exploring dollar as I got at Edinburgh Castle. If I had only a 8 pounds left to my name and 9 starving children I would still go to Edinburgh Castle because it is sooooo worth it. It is the most facinating place in the entire universe. It should be a required visit by all people with legs. Wait, no. It should be a require visit for all humanity. It is so interesting that it would be worth 8.000 million pounds just to step inside the Castle grounds even with my eyes closed.

Sorry.

I know you're enjoying the name-calling, but I have to point out that different published versions of Shakespeare's works vary. The disputed line appears both ways, depending upon which version you're using.
