How much does it cost to take an EC train from Milano Centrale to Monte Carlo (Monaco)?
I have been to the Trenitalia website to obtain this info. There is an EC train leaving Milano Centrale at 11:10 a.m., arriving in Monte Carlo at 3:45 p.m. -- perfect for what we want. However, it does not give a price. I assumed it was because I was looking for a train ticket in mid-August. But when I look for a ticket for THIS week, it still has "NO" in the "Buy" column. I had already decided we would buy our tickets at the station. However, I would like to get a ballpark figure for what it will cost us (that budget thing!).
Thanks for any help!!!
p.s. We leave in 47 days for our 27-day trip to Italy and elsewhere!!! WOO-HOO!!!!

Hi OT,
You can't buy most international tickets at www.trenitalia.com.
You can buy tickets at www.sncf.com as early as 60 days in advance. Prices as low as 15E.

I can give you prices thru RailEurope: cheapest is $19 one way Milano-Nice (or Monaco) this is a PREM fare requiring 14 days advance purchase and are very limited in supply - can book up to 90 days in advance. Compare this with Trenitalia price which someone i'm sure will find out. But RailEurope charges a $15 booking fee (per order not per ticket) and a $15 mailing fee. I always advise going thru Budget Europe (800-441-2387), RailEurope agent whose staffers are rail experts and they will only charge a $5 mailing fee not $15. So price for two tickets would be $38 plus $20= $58 - see in Trenitalia can beat that, i don't know. the $19 is second class - other RailEurope fares for these newly branded "Riviera Trains" is $57 full fare 1st class - no advance requirement; $38 second class; youth under 26 $32 2nd cl; senior 60 and over $44 1st and $32 2nd. Passholder $11 (a reservation fee; reservations required on these trains. these prices are subject to change - i'm taking them from a Raileurope product sheet dated 4-22-05; call for current prices.

To get a good idea of the fare, check the Trenitalia fare from Milano to Ventimiglia (the last station in Italy). SNCF will give you the fare from Ventimiglia to Monte Carlo, but it will be negligible because it's only a short distance. In both Italy and France, standard fares are calculated from the distance in kilometres, with the Italian rate being about half that in France.

Thanks, everyone, for the great advice. Another "to do" has been marked off my list!
GeoffHamer: I took your advice and got the price at Trenitalia from Milan to Ventimiglia -- roughly $31 Euro for first class. Gave me a great idea of what the entire ticket will cost.
