How Many Days Need in Dubrovnik

Hi, Me and my husband are goign to europe for 2 weeks in July and need to know how many days we need in Dubrovnik. Due to flight limitations we are restricted.

Is 2 full days and 3 nights ( considering 1 of nights we will just be arriving from nyc)?

Or do we need to extend the trip to be 3 full days and 4 nights?

We are flying from there to Berlin afterwards, we are not planning on seeing any day trips while in dubrovnik, we were toying with the idea of seeing Korcula for day if we stayed longer but just seemed like such a long day.

Any advise would be helpful. Also if you have input on how many days needed in berlin and prague that too would be welcome.

One full day should be plenty. Also, you should check the cruise ship arrival list on the port's website and try to pick a day with fewer visitors. My last visit I had to queue up to get into the old town....

Thanks for your feedback love to get everyones opion on this.

Unfortunately I already booked our trip and looking at your calendar you so nicely provided they will have 3,500 cruise attendees fri and then sat also. But then Sunday it says they have 7,000 so maybe good idea to get out of Dubrovnik that day anyway and fly to Berlin.

So you think 2 full days is plenty to do a relax visit to Dubrovnik one day at the nearby beach and old town for the rest of the trip? Any side trips you suggest that are MUST SEES or you think best to leave that Sunday and give more time to Berlin/Prague which is the later portion of my trip?

When we visited we had 4 nights but we did two day trips - one to Mostar and one to Montenegro. They were both worth while. We did them on the days the city was expected to be the most crowded. We also enjoyed the fact that we had four evenings to enjoy Dubrovnik after the cruise ships left (they pulled out of port around 6pm I think). But we really only had one full day - that and the evenings was enough.

We also loved Korcula (2 nights) but we did that on the way to Split (which we also enjoyed).

Difficult to give advice without knowing the rest of your itinerary. Certainly a side trip to Montenegro or Bosnia is worthwhile, but if you are more into sea/beach you could visit an island instead.

My visit to Mostar is here: http://mytimetotravel.wordpress.com/...ngs-on-mostar/ - my last visit to Dubrovnik is the previous post.

Wow super helpful. I was also thinking of doing 2 days/3 nights Dubrovnik then heading up to split some how (suggestions?) and spend just a night there since it has much better flight options for us.

Has anyone been to Split? Is it worth it?

What about Korcula?

I'd do max 2 days (but one would do). Split is great with Diocletian's palace, then also a side trip to Trogir.

I like Bol on Brac, but others like Hvar using the hydrofoils (check autumn timetables).

3500 idiots in dubrovnik for one day (i'd avoid) it will be like Venice when 5 big ships come in.

Split and Korcula are both "worth it" and very interesting places to visit, different from Dubrovnik.

Yes, Split is definitely worth a visit. I loved the town-inside-the-palace. You can take the ferry - http://www.jadrolinija.hr/en/home?lang=2

But the single best sight in the area is Plitvice National Park: http://www.np-plitvicka-jezera.hr/ - worth at least two nights/one day.

One of my favorite trips was our 8 day trip (July 2010) with 4 days Dubrovnik (with day trips as noted above), then ferry to Korcula for 2 days, then ferry to Split for 2 (and day trip from there to Trogir, also by ferry). We loved taking the ferries and the amount of time we had in each place seemed just about perfect. The old town section of Split is very interesting - I guess there's a lot of more modern sprawl but we never needed to go there. We arrived by ferry and then just took the bus to the airport to leave. I highly recommend a couple days there. Trogir is very nice but I actually liked Split at least as much, and Korcula as well.

Here is my trip report (scroll down past the Italy portion) - http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...rful-weeks.cfm

I agree with others -- 1 full day for Dubrovnik or 2 if you are doing a day trip (Montenegro or Mostar). I loved Split. Also enjoyed Korcula, Trogir, and the incomparable Plitvice Lakes. There are lots of threads that discuss and compare/contrast these places, so you might want to search this board for more info. Enjoy!
