How many are shipping ahead to europe?
DW and I are heading to France on the 21st of september and are really concerned about more lost luggage than normal. This is our 6 th year in a row to europe and we have never lost any, but we are flying American Airlines, first time, and we here they are notorious for losing luggage. San Diego to Dallas to CDG. The thing that worries us is we are not staying in Paris except the last 4 days. We are flying Air france to Marseille from cdg on arrival, so having the luggage catching up would seem unlikely.
We are staying with Kevin at Mas Perreal on our second and third night so maybe we could ship ahead some things?

I wish I could offer what you will feel is "good advice" but i can only say there seem to be a lot of people assuming there will be an increase in lost luggage and that they will be affected.
It will be interesting to see if you are correct.
BTW..are you planning to ship that same stuff HOME when you return or are you willing to take a chance on the return? Just curious...

Anyone have an idea what it costs? My sister and her husband are meeting me in Paris before travelling to the Ryder Cup golf tournament in Ireland.
In Ireland she will need everything from sporty to a ball gown for the gala. I hate for them to have to schlepp that stuff around Paris.
I've suggested she go ahead and pack one light duffel with their Ireland stuff. Then head to the UPS store for a price to ship it to their hotel there. She will be there well enough ahead of time to take care of pressing.

Dukey-- just assumed that the bags would show up either in Paris before we leave and show up in San Diego eventually. Maybe because never had a problem before I tend to be rather niave. We do always have itinery tags on the bags??

StephenG,
I regularly ship a box of clothing each summer -"work" clothing that I need for one destination for 10 days, then don't need for the rest of my 4-6 week stay. I never ship ahead for just a 2 week visit.
At the end of those 10 days, I ship the items back, along with books/brochures I've picked up along the way.
My stuff goes over USPS Global Priority. Fidel is correct. It's cheaper than the other options.
I've also found shipping back to US cheaper in France than in Spain.
We just sent 4 boxes back from the Cambo-les-Bains post office (department 64-Pays Basque) in the extra large Colissimo International red pre-paid boxes (postage included) costing 28 euros each.
They took about a week to arrive home.
Shipping that amount from the Spanish postal service (no prepaid boxes yet for international shipments) costs at least 1/3 more.
