How long to clear customs in Naples Airport and how long to get to the buses?
I am going to Ravello & Amalfi coast in less than 2 weeks and can't wait!!
I would like to first of all thank you foderites who helped me with this trip. Most people said hire a driver from the airport to Ravello and I did check this out but as I am travelling solo it was working out quite expensive (100 - 120euro, great value if there are 2 or more people)but I would prefer to spend my euros on good food etc.
I have decided to take the airport bus to the port and catch the ferry to Amalfi then bus to Ravello.
I am travelling on Easyjet from London and intend to take carry on luggage (the case fits their description and I will pack a roll up back pack for my purchases. I am not concerned about carry on when returning. I will also have a big hand bag)
The flight arrives at 11.10am and the bus to the port departs at 11.30am
Supposing the flight is on time can I make this connection?
My ferry timetables are
M2 13.40pm
M3 14.45pm
I would like to try for the earlier ferry. The next bus leaves the airport at 12md.
I have never been to Naples before and do not know where the ticket office is or where the boat that I need departs from, I speak no Italian and will be using a phrase book, so would like to be there as early as possible.
1. Is the 11.30am transfer doable?
2. If I got the 12md bus would I be able to get a ticket and find my way to the ferrry in enough time?
3. If the 11.30am transfer is OK would I be better getting the 11.30am bus from the airport to Sorrento direct and then taking a bus to Ravello?
If anyone can help it would be very much appreciated.
Helen

The problem is unlikely to be customs (A Europe to Europe Flight), but passport control. I have flown into Naples several times, and have often got caught up in the queues for passport checking, and then again retrieving baggage (although you will have carry on only). It depends how many other flights arrive from the UK at a similar time - I seem to remember Easyjet landing around the same time as the BMI flight from Heathrow.

We did the airport-to-port transfer by bus a few weeks ago. Baggage claim and customs were very quick, but I can't advise on immigration; we were coming from Munich and went through immigration there as opposed to Naples since both Germany and Italy are Schengen countries.
Some flights at Naples use buses to transfer people from the plane to the terminal, which can take a bit longer.
Once you leave the baggage claim/customs area, go out the door and directly across the street -- you will see some orange buses there. There is an attendant who will sell you a ticket (3€, IIRC) and make sure you get on the correct bus. Our flight arrived about 2:45 pm, and the bus ride to the port took about 40 minutes.
The bus makes one stop near the train station, then goes on to Piazza Municipio. It does not let you out directly at Molo Beverello. Rather, you will have to walk about two blocks down the street, and then cross at a light. From there, it is just a quick walk to the right (as you're facing the port) to the ticket offices for the ferries. Total walk was less than 10 minutes. There will probably be others on the bus doing the same, so follow the crowd.
If you're traveling light, you should be fine, but note that the streets are cobblestone and you'll have to go up and down from sidewalk to street a few times. It might be a little difficult with a lot of luggage.
Enjoy your trip!

Cambe - You will get to Amalfi/Ravello quicker if you go by train & ferry via Salerno rather than the way you plan.
There are frequent buses from Naples airport to Piazza Garibaldi (Napoli Centrale station).
There are trains from Naples to Salerno at:
11.50
12.22
12.50
(Journey time 40-50 mins).
www.trenitalia.com
From Salerno station it's a short 5-10 mins walk to the jetty (Piazza delle Concordia) - from where there's a ferry at 14.10 to Amalfi.
Ferry journey: 35 mins.
Fare: € 4.

Hope this helps ...

[P.S. The M2 13.40 hydrofoil service you suggest takes 1hr 35', arriving Amalfi 15.15 ... ]
