How is luggage stored on a train in France?

Are there overhead storage racks that take only luggage of a certain size like airplanes? Is there an area of each car to leave luggage like Japan? Do you check luggage like Canada? Is there a difference in the amount of luggage storage romm between first and second class? Thank you to all you trainees.

Sometimes.
Sometimes.
No.
Sometimes.

(Sometimes = it depends on the train.)

22 in ch bags can go overhead, but a 26 in won't fit, you'll have to leave them in the luggage compartment at one end of the car. you do not check anything. smaller the better if your going to be on trains.

I'm sure there are exceptions, due to Robespierre's "sometimes"s, but every train in Europe I've ever been on has had overhead storage, and most long-distance ones had a storage area near the doors (though I wouldn't leave my stuff there unattended, though maybe, maybe, locked would be alright, depending). Never checked luggage, and I've never seen much of a difference in luggage between the classes, if any.

The first question was "Are there overhead storage racks that take only luggage of a certain size like airplanes?"

The complete answer is: some have racks that take only luggage of a certain size, and others have racks that are big enough to accommodate anything you're likely to be able to curl that high.

In other words, do not plan for "unlimited."

The overhead racks on all trains I've been on in France are big enough to put a knapack or a small suitcase. Usually there are luggage racks at the end of each car to hold larger items. You do not check luggage. I've never noticed any difference in the amount of luggage room between 1st and 2nd class.

When there are luggage rack near the doors, secure your bags with a cable/combination lock device. You can lock two or more bags together or put the lock around a post. Just be sure to go unlock your bags well before arrival at your desination, as sometimes the train stops only briefly.

The amount of storage overhead and whether or not there are racks at the ends of the coaches depends upon the equipment being used. Some of those overhead racks in non-TGV and non-ICE and non-Italian Eurostar trains will accommodate BIG pieces of luggage.

On some trains there is room under the seats and on others there is room behind the seats as well.

There are NO baggage cars per se such as on the VIARail trains in Canada.
