How far of a train ride from Paris, Mon San Michele (sp), Brussels?

Thanks, I know this is a quick internet question but I am looking up so many things for this trip. If anyone knows of this it would much appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Sarah

Paris to Brussels is about 1 1/2 hours by train. I looked it up on
http://www.voyages-sncf.com

You can't take a train directly to Mont St. Michel. I don't recall the closest town but they have tours that you can arrange from that town. I would suggest staying overnight so you can be there before and after the crowds instead of in the midst of the crowd. There's lots of info here about where to stay.

I wasn't sure what the question was -- from Paris to these two different places, or if you thought Mont St. Michel was right near Paris.

The closest major train station to Mont St. Michel is Rennes. You can get buses from there to the site. It's really too far for a day trip, although theoretically possible, due to the connections and timing.

Think there will still be crowd in November? I thought there would not be a train after I requested. Think there will be a bus. I am only going for 6 days to Paris so I only wanted to do a day trip. Thanks for the link. I went to a europe rail link but I was having trouble with the sight. Any ball park on how far from Paris, lets say a bus might take?

Thanks,

It is a long, full day on a tour bus from Paris to Mont St. Michel. If I recall, it is 4 or 5 hours each way. With only 6 days in Paris, there are lots of day trips that would be interesting and not have to sit on a bus for 8 or 9 hours. I think it is crowded most of the time, but I don't know that for sure.

I'd suggest Chartres. Or Amboise and visit some of the chateaux of the Loire. You could do this from Blois also. Or go north to Rouen and see the wonderful half-timbered buildings and cathedral. I found Mont St. Michel to be a very wonderful place to visit and would recommend it to anyone, but maybe you could do it on your next trip when you have time to spend the night. The SCNF site - did you click the link to have it display in English? I'm not trying to insult you but I didn't do it the first time and was really lost. Have a fun trip!

We went from Paris to Mont St. Michel a couple of years ago with train to Rennes and bus on and it seems to me it was something like 4 hours one way. As I recall you had to be on a fairly early train to make the bus connection. Maybe someone else can help with more recent info.

Sarah:

Your question is still unclear. Are you thinking of taking ONE day trip, to EITHER Brussels or le Mont St-Michel? And what does this mean? <<Any ball park on how far from Paris, lets say a bus might take?>>

A bus to where? Brussels? Le Mont St-Michel?

Train to Brussels is easy. As someone said, it takes about an hour and a half.

Le Mont St-Michel is a few hours from Paris with a combination of train to Rennes and then a bus, I think, to Pontorson, and then a long walk across the causeway. It would probably take about 6-8 hours of travel time to do it yourself. You can book tours from Paris, but it's still a very long daytrip, IMO. And in November, the weather's fairly likely to be bad.

Thanks Crystalin and StCirq

I first wanted to get an idea on the distance and time. I guess a day trip is out of the question if it is only 4 hours away. One spot I missed years ago and always regretted. An over night stay is not out of the question but I am not sure its worth it, if there will be crowds and a good half day of travel.

I have been to brugge. Will probably just head back there. I know they are two separate places, think I am missing something extraordinary but skipping Mon San Michele and going back to Brugge?

Have you already done the short day trips from Paris? I suggested a couple that might be interesting. But, if you liked Brugges, it is fun to revisit a place you been to. Hopefully you can save MSM for another trip so you have the time to be there without the hundreds (thousands?) of other tourists. It was truly magical to see it lit up at night.

What about staying overnight in Le Mont St-Michel?
