How far is the beach from Center of Sorrento?

I'm a little confused about the terrain in and around Sorento. Is the beach close enough to the city center to walk?..or is it down a hilly road that you would have to drive?
Are there shuttles available from the town to the beach? I have a lot to figure out before May 28th !! Would driving within Sorrento be a nightmare? Is there parking ?

There are some beaches, but some areas are just bathing areas (from piers - no beach).

Much of Sorrento is on a cliff with a big drop-off to the water. There are paid parking lots around town. Google images of Sorrento marinas.

the ferry port - pier is about 5 - 8 minute walk from the centre of Sorrento depending on your pace.. it is very close.. Sorrento is up on the cliffs , yes , but there are stairs for pedestrians from main square to go down the cliff and unless you're with mobility restrictions you shouldn't have to worry about getting down there. There are regular little busses - shuttles that go down to the pier ( about 400 meter downwards road with some curves ) and take about 1 - 2 minutes to get there. The pier is very close to centre, do not worry about it at all unless you are looking for actual beaches ( swimming, sunbaking ) ... you can explore them by driving car or scooter a bit out of centre... for example there's a nice beach in nearby town of Meta , another beach close to Sorrento is Regina Giovanna .... there's a good public transport system - buses circulate regulary around the area.. hope it helps...

There are no real "beaches" in Sorrento, just a few little areas of sand down below the cliffs and they become occupied pretty quickly. There are some decent beaches a few miles from Sorrento in the Massa Lubrense, although these beaches are beautiful they consist of small rocks as opposed to sand and you must wear some type of footwear to walk on the beach. But they are excellent for sunning, swimming, and you can find plenty of open space around you, not packed in like the piers/bathing areas of Sorrento.

As for driving in Sorrento, it can be a little hectic, but you adjust pretty fast, yes there are a few large pay areas in Sorrento and in my opinion very reasonably priced.
