Nancy: If your travel plans are pretty much set, rent as early as possible, even now. Most car prices are based on availability. First come, cheaper sometimes. When we used Auto Europe and there was a price reduction, they notified us and passed the savings on. Also with Hertz, they told us that if a sale came along, we could take advantage of the lower fare. No one has ever increased the cost on us and when I checked the prices right before I went on my last trip, they had increased considerably. But I still paid the lower fare. Something you want to check on. If it isn't too much trouble for you, it is a lot cheaper to rent a car in Rome rather than the airport because of the surcharge. Usually you can do the return to the airport if you choose, but it doesn't cost more for the dropoff.

Sherry,
Thanks!
All our plans are set, flights, apartment rental in Rome, hotel in Formia or Sperlonga (still decisding there)
And hotel upon return to Rome before departure.
Getting a car, and drop-off will be easier (dare I really say that!)in the city itself, no nedd to go to airport.
so, car rental will be this weeks task.
again, thanks.
nancy

Nancy. If you check this forum there are many threads related to renting a car in Italy. I think it would be beneficial for you to read them before you make your final plans. There are all kinds of things to know about renting in Italy. If you care to, you can e-mail me with any other questions you may have. I just did this in August.

Sherry,
Thank you, I did copy some threads on Italy/autorentals, but not a thorough one.
I will try it, but if I have any more questions, thanks for the invite to contact you directly.
