How do you pronounce "Chianti?"

Is it key-AHN-tee or key-AN-tee?

LOL I thought I was the only one who noticed that Anthony Hopkins had the WORST Italian accent for a character who was supposed to be fluent Italian!

One of the nicest things about learning Italian is that the vowels don't have several options for pronunciation. O and E have 2 pronunciations, while I, A, and U have only one sound each. A is always like the a in father--therefore Chianti is pronounced kee AHN' tee

It must be some sort of British stubborn-ness thing (not that there aren't many more stubborn American mis-pronunciations!) - - many British insist on saying pass-ta also, instead of pahss-ta

Oh well...

Best wishes,

Rex

But you don't really take the time to pronounce the "kee" part as a full long syllable. It's shorter and more slippery, almost like the "c" in "cute" makes it sound like "kyute" not kee-ute."

Exactly. Just as Gianni isn't gee-ah-nee, but is more like gya-nee.
