How do you arrange for a taxi from a Paris apartment?

Having always stayed in hotels, the task has been rather easy - the hotel arranges it. If you want a taxi at, say 8am, do you phone the night before?
Whom do you call?
I realize that you pay from the time that they leave home base, do you choose the taxi company by its proximity to your apartment?
I am assuming that in our location in the 18e we are not near a taxi stand.
Thank you in advance to anyone knowledgeable enough to offer advise.

We've asked the person checking us in at the apartment for a recommendation and assistance in making the arrangements. They have always been willing to help....after all they needed to get us out of the apartment in order to turn it over.

Hi robjame. The three apartments we have rented in Paris all had taxi information in the welcome book. (Most owners have a binder full of useful information, such as nearest shops and services, how to dispose of the garbage, recycling instructions, etc.)

I'm pretty sure one of the companies we used was Taxis Bleus (and it looks like you can order one on line now at www.taxis-bleus.com).

Hi Anselm - I trust that you are enjoying your warm weather
As we will have our laptop, I will copy that site into my bookmarks.
Your advise about the welcome book makes sense.
Thanks.

We have always called Taxi Bleu the night before. They are quite reliable. And the meter always started when we were picked up and on our way - not when taxii left "home base."

Our apartment owner called a taxi for us the night before. Since they lived in the same building, they knew which company to call. We asked for a taxi at 8am, and they pulled up about 8 o'clock sharp.

robjame, good call on the laptop. We've carried ours around France, Beijing, and Hong Kong. I have complained about the weight from time to time, but concluded that the benefits far outweigh the burden.

Our Halifax summer has been cool and often overcast, but my garden is thriving. You must be getting excited about your fall trip.

I had this same situation last week and had a great experience with Airport Connections which I had seen mentioned on this forum.

http://www.airport-connection.com

We reserved online, received our confirmation email, called the night before just to be sure everything was on go, and our shuttle arrived 10 minutes early so that our luggage would be loaded and we could depart at our scheduled time. I just got too afraid a taxi scheduled in advance might not show and for an early morning pickup, I'd be stuck.

Anyway, I will continue to use them in the future, especially since it was nice to have paid in advance online by credit card and not have to worry about the meter running in traffic jams, etc.

With advice from other fodorites, I went with Bluvan. I did everything online prior to leaving for the trip and just hoped that they showed up as planned. They were there spot-on at 7am just as requested. I also found them very reasonably priced. I plan on using them again next month.

We used Paris Airport Service from our apartment. We called on a Thursday for a pickup at 1:00 PM on Monday, July 2. Called Monday AM to confirm. We were the only passengers and the trip took 45 minutes from the 15th on the border with the 14th.

The cost for 2 was 30 Euro. Phone is 01 55 98 10 80.

I should have bee clearer - this is not to go to the airport.
We will need a taxi to go to the car rental agency at the end of our week in Paris. I just know we will have acquired some souvenirs while there, plus some presents for the grandchildren, plus left over food, plus a few wine selections, plus our bags (we don't travel with 20" carry ons).

I order taxis from G7 over the internet regularly, when I need to take my mother somewhere out of her nursing home (because the municipal service that can take us anywhere in the city for 3€ is usually swamped, as could be expected). They always show up precisely 5 minutes before the scheduled time.

G7 coordinates 4500 independently owned taxis. The website says it has 200 people just answering the telephones. The company was founded in 1902.
