The site www.croatiaboats.com/en2/arriving_boat.aspx gives all the boats.
Jadrolinja sail from Ancona to Split and from Bari to Dubrovnik: http://www.jadrolinija.hr/, then English.
Adriatica sail from Ancona to Split: http://www.adriatica.it/inglese/index.html/.
The reference library of a city near you may have the Thomas Cook Eduropean timetable. Table 89b shows trains from Venice.
Venice Santa Lucia 0655, Trieste 1004 to 1052, restaurant car train, Ljubljana 1341 to 1408, buffet car train, Zagreb 1630
Venice Santa Lucia 1544, Ljubljana 1940 to 2105, Zagreb 2329
In summer the no-frills line Sky Europe, http://www. skyeurope.com, fly from Paris to Bratislava and from there to Dubrovnik Zadar, and Split. All year planes leave Stansted for north east Italy, from where you can take the trains to Zagreb.
Ryanair to Treviso and Trieste: http://www.ryanair.ie, 0870 156 9569
Easyjet to Venice: http://www.easyjet.com, 0870 6 000 000
and Volare fly from Gatwick to Venice: http://w3.volareweb.com/en/index.html
Treviso is 16 minutes or 28 kilometres by train from Venice Mestre, and I think Ryanair run busses from Treviso airport to central Venice

Actually, there are a lot more ferries than that: a friend of mine likened Venice last week to the Piraeus in its heyday, with competing Croatia ferry hucksters all over the place. Try www.cemar.it/dest/ferries_croatia.htm (like Croatia Boats, not an industry portal, but one company's site) A fuller list of the ferry companies, and some hints on buses, is at http://www.visit-croatia.co.uk/trave...ound/italy.htm

We did an overnight ferry from Bari, Italy to Dubrovnik, taking our car, and then returning four days later. The only problem was it was the beginning of everyone's vacation in Italy in August, so it was jammed with people.

Try this link http://www.europebyair.com/eba/map/default.jsp
You can get cheap flights to Split or Dubrovnik from London or Paris. There is an interactive map that shows you which cities are covered and I think I remember it is $99. I found the ferries very slow so I tried to minimize my time on them.
