travel by train from Bruge, Belgium to Bayeux, France without going via Paris

It is difficult to have web train routers produce itineraries without going through Paris because it is usually the fastest way to connect cities in the region.

If you are allergic to Paris or something, you can probably connected this way:

Bruges 8:32, Kortrijk 9:26 , Lille 10:37, Amiens 12:30, Rouen 17:02, Caen 18:40, Bayeux 19:02

Compare this to via Paris Route:

Bruges 8:32, Kortrijk 9:26, Lille 10:00, Paris Nord 11:02, RER/Taxi to Paris St. Lazare 12:10, Bayeux 14:15

thanks - it appears the best way to do it is to leave Bruge, travel to Paris via Brussels & then connect to Bayeux., if we time it right we can go direct otherwise we have to change trains at Caen.

good thing there are rail passes available - otherwise quite expensive way to travel. Wish husband would allow someone to drive!!!

Have you checked the rates from Bruges to Paris at http://www.b-rail.be/main/E/
and from Paris to Bayeux at www.voyages-sncf.com?

You might be able to buy your tickets all the way to Bayeux in Belgium.

You can take a Thalys train directly from Bruges to Gare du Nord in Paris, departing at 06:25 and arriving at 08:59. Take the RER E from Magenta (attached to Gare du Nord) to Haussmann--St-Lazare or take a taxi. Take a direct train from St-Lazare to Bayeux, departing at 10:10 and arrriving at 12:15.

If you want to save a day on your railpasses, booking well in advance can get you discount fares for this route: €25.00 for Bruges-Paris and €15.00 for Paris-Bayeux (2nd class on both legs). The 2nd class passholder fare for the Thalys leg is €39.00.

FYI, if you were to drive, you would pay a stiff fee for picking up a car in one country and dropping it off in another.

b-rail shows that you can skip Paris.

You will have to price the ticket from Bruges to Lille-Flandres at b-rail and from Lille-Flandres to Bayeux at SNCF.
