How do I get from Paris to Caen and from Caen to Omaha Beach?

I would like to take the train from Paris to Caen. How can I find a price and timetable? Should I buy tickets in advance or can I buy one at the time of departure?

I want to see the Memorial in Caen. Afterwards I'd like to see Omaha Beach. Is there any conventient transportation to and from?

Thanks.

Ok...I'm doing this trip in June; so after a few weeks of learning the ropes, I can try to be the expert and give you advice!
Train to Caen leaves from Gare St. Lazare.
Trains presently leave at 0835, 1030, 1225 and 1430. Each train arrives in about 2 hours.
We were told, and I'm banking on it, that there is no problem getting train tickets a few days before we use them. If you dont have a few days, you may want to play it safe and get them in advance.
You can rent a car in Caen. I've read that the memorial in Caen also gives tours of the landing beaches. There is also a tour company named Bus Fly that gives half and full day tours. www.busfly.com
I don't have info on public transportation but if you ONLY want to see Omaha beach and perhaps the American cemetery, then perhaps a public bus will meet your needs.
Have a good time.

oops; I believe busfly tours only depart from Bayeux. If you do some research on google for example, I'm sure you'll come up with a number of tour options.

I'd suggest getting a rental car. The area you want to see is easily seen by car. There are lots of sites to see such as the museum in Caen (we spent several hours here), Pont du Hoc, beaches, american cemetary,Arromanches 360, and Longues Sur Mer. We stayed in Bayeux as it was a good base for seeing all sites.
