How do I get from FCO to Spello

I am going to Italy in October 2012. I need to get from FCO to Spello to meet up with friends who will have a car. Is there affordable and easy public transportation from the Rome Airport to Spello?

You'd take the train into Rome and a second train to Spello. Search 'Fiumicino aeroporto' and 'Spello' with your date and time.

Oops. You'll have to change trains in Foligno, so it's three trains from the airport to Spello.

It would also be possible to catch the Sulga bus from FCO to Assisi which is not far from Spello. Perhaps your friends could pick you up there. If not, you can take a bus from Assisi to Spello.

If it were me, I would do as kybourbon suggests.

Assisi is a very short ride from Spello. (less than 25 minutes according to Google maps, which didn't have the Sulga bus stop)

Three trains would be too much for me.

But compare the train and bus schedules. The only bus from the airport to Assisi departs at 9:00 a.m. and takes more than four hours (and you're still not in Spello). The trains leave all day, the journey takes about 3 hours (even with very comfortable connecting times), and you end up in Spello. The options later in the day are only two trains (no connecting in Foligno).
