I have never seen such a list, I think it would be easiest to find several places you like and email and ask if they allow pets or not. I assume its for allergy reasons?

Which countries are you considering?

Even hotels which allow animals usually have certain rooms which are intended for pet owners. A very large number of hotels do not allow animals. Booking.com and the like state if the hotel allows animals.

I don't think you'll ever find a list for all of Europe for all hotels, that would be pretty impossible. I suggest you look at a hotel's website directly when you hve found one you are interested in to find out.

I don't like it, either, and it has nothing to do with allergies, it is because I have been in hotels next to dogs barking numerous times and I don't like it.

As someone who travels extensively with her pet, I can tell you that a) in many European countries, pets are welcomed at the majority of hotels b) in some European countries, they're not and c) there is no such Europe-wide list of which hotel takes pets and which doesn't.

Generally, you should avoid any property in the Accor hotel group as most of those accept pets.

If you (or someone traveling with you) has a genuine pet allergy, then tell us where you plan to go and what your budget is. I'm sure Fodorites will try to help. I know several hotels in Paris, for example, that don't accept pets.

If you just don't like seeing pets in hotels, then consider adjusting your attitude. Our English cocker spaniel has traveled around Europe with us and several hoteliers have told us that she has better manners than many, many bipeds.

My attitude is just fine thanks....I dont want to stay in a room where animals, particularly dogs have defecated and slobbered and/or where they have slept on or even in the bed.

I know that every pet owner is going to tell me how they travel everywhere with their pets and they have never done such a thing and what a horrible person I am because I really dont like dogs.....cue barrage of hatemail from dog owners who dont get the fact that not everyone likes dogs...

I don't think any of us would want to stay in a hotel that hasn't cleaned a room properly after its previous occupants. But if it has been, who's to know what they may or may not have done in it?

I think your best strategy might be to search for a hotel in your price range online and then check to see if it does or does not allow dogs. That might be the best strategy. Generally, all Accor hotels (Sofitel, Ibis, Novotel, Etap) allow pets, and many upscale hotels allow pets. I think your best bet might be to find a mid-range independent hotel. That's the kind of place most likely not to allow dogs. Expedia and Travelocity both have pretty good information on this. And the country does make a difference.

And try not to be so defensive. I think people are making a very good point that pets are (in general and in some countries) more widely accepted everywhere in Europe than in the U.S., so it's not really practical or realistic to think that you can find a "list" anywhere of a particular kind of hotel.

But I think standards of cleanliness are such that you should have little concern, especially in a top-class hotel, that the room hasn't been properly cleaned. It's in the lower-end hotels that you may find a comforter reused after a pet has been in the room or find that the carpets have not been properly cleaned. So better to find a hotel that doesn't allow pets at all if you want to stay in a low- to mid-range hotel. If it's a luxury hotel, then I think you should have no concern. So go for Sofitel by all means without any worries.

IMO, you do not need an attitude adjustment. I wish such a list existed.

Jamikins has a reasonable suggestion, that's what I do. I stayed at a nice hotel in Collioure, all dogs and owners were in the annex building

I also despise staying in a room where dogs have been.
Last thing I want is my trip spoilt because my nose and eyes have exploded due to allergy.

I make it my business to steer clear of all pets, not because I dislike them because I don't but because my allergy goes into overdrive.

The room can be cleaned as much as you like but the smell will never be removed from the carpet.

Also you won't ever get agreement with dog owners, because they often (my father included) see their dogs as human extentions to the family, my dad thinks his sheepdog is a child. A very overweight one at that.
