I am having a very hard time choosing between two hotels in Santander: Hotel Vincci Puerto Chico and the Hotel Occidental Bahia. The price for the Bahia is a bit less and it is very close to the train/bus station, which would be convenient since we'll be arriving by train and departing by bus. However, the Vincci Puerto Chico looks very nice and has received nothing but great reviews. We will be there for two nights in early May and it's not important that we are near or on the beach. We would like to be within walking distance or within easy transportation access to the sights within Santander and close to restaurants and tapas bars.
Do you have any comments on either of these hotels or can you please recommend an alternative hotel that fits our criteria? Thank you.

Hi choleco,
I have stayed at the Bahía twice, last time in 2006. Ireally liked the hotel. Rooms had a good size and bathrooms were modern. The second time they upgraded us to a lovely huge corner room overlooking the bay. I think part of the reason they did was that there was construction work in front of the hotel that could be seen from one of the windows of the room. But this did not detract from the beautiful view from the others. Location is excellent regarding restaurants. As you point out it is very close to the bus/train station and that was very helpful as I also arrived/left by bus and did day trips.
I also considered the Vincci Puerto Chico, which is almost midway between the Bahia and Sardinero beach. I walked by it and it seemed nice but if I returned to Santander I would probably stay at the Bahia again.
I also stayed at the Bahia, best location for train/bus stations and central town.
I really liked the Puerto Chico on my last weekend in Santander (I live near Bilbao). You may want to take advantage of their special offer when in Santander, www.findepack.com, 15% discount on many hotels and restaurants if your visit is on a weekend.
