Hotels in Lucerne and Lugano

Planning a driving trip in Switzerland in August and looking for recommendations for hotels in Lucerne and Lugano. Want something central and also with parking. It doesn't need to be five stars but clean with a private bath.

Several to choose from in "downtown" Luzern. Have you looked at Trip Advisor? The parking will be costly for some properties. The Des Balances comes to mind but there are other very suitable places. You really do not NEED a car to visit but realize you have other plans as well.

Union Hotel in Lucerne is very nice. Stayed there once a few years ago. Check it out on trip advisor. Not Union Top Hotel--just Union Hotel. In good area. On Loewenstrasse 16. Spelling is probably incorrect.

We have stayed at the Des Balances several times and the location can't be beat but the rate can be a little steep depending on the season. It's a very nice property.

Agree that the Balances is great. We also liked the Wilden Mann. You would have to check about parking directly with the hotels.

In Lugano, we stay at the Hotel Dante. Centrally located, comfortable, excellent service. Limited parking, but there is parking at the train station and at lots in town.

The Des Balances is not in any way, shape, or form cheap. We've never had a car the several times we have stayed there so that is why I made the comment about not cheap parking. The Flora I believe it is is directly across the river and is not nearly as well-decorated and yeah it does get tour buses but it might actually have parking.
