Hotels in Capadoccia

Hi Fododrites,

I'm going to Istanbul and Capadoccia for 8 days in late February. Any recommendations of where to stay in Capadoccia?

Thanks!

Esbelli Evi in Urgup. Prefect service! Lovely spaces, great breakfast, a fine piano if you play, great location, good restaurants nearby, good rates. This is the only hotel I have let book taxis, tours, shuttles, etc. for me. We arrived very late at night, exhausted after nearly 24 hours of travel, and hungry. When I asked about food from someplace close, they said to settle into our room and not worry. A few minute

Realized I accidentally posted before finishing.

Esbelli Evi
A few minutes later, an absolute feast was delivered to our room. It was the best meal of our trip and probably the least expensive. That was an indication of the kindness and service provided for our entire stay. I am sure there are other lovely places in the area, but this is one of my favorite hotels, ever.

We stayed at Aydinli Cave Hotel twice. The family was so warm and helpful, and the rooms were gorgeous. However, I think you need to first decide which town you want to stay in before settling on a hotel. Goreme is considered more "touristy" but we liked being able to walk to Red Valley etc. and we loved being surrounded by the fairy chimneys. Urgup, in our eyes, had less charm, but if we were to stay more than a few days it might be our choice since it's more of a town. If you do a search of the archives you'll see the back and forth debate is never-ending.

There are other choices too as tourism has expanded in the area, but those are the two most established towns with many lodging choices. If you plan on just staying put in your hotel and having tours pick you up the choice of town may not matter as much.

Third for Esbelli Evi, particularly the charming staff (although it's been too long to know those same people are still there).

I'm leaning towards Goreme because I read it's in the middle of everything. My wife and I are in our 30's and like hiking on our own so it might be the best option.

Is three full days, three nights too much or is it a good amount of time? I would get to Kayseri airport at about 10am on a Tuesday and leave Friday in the morning.

Thanks!

Since it will take an hour or so to get from the airport to Goreme and a few minutes to settle into your hotel, it will be nearly noon, so your first day will not be a full day, more like a half day, but 2 & 1/2 days should be enough to see major sights and have one hike.

Are you doing a hot air balloon flight? That was the most exciting excursion we have ever done and well worth the cost, even if it is a sacrifice of something else. Another poster here said if you were ever going to do a balloon flight, then Cappadocia is the place to do it and I agree 100%.

Yes, we definitely want to do the hot air balloon. I should schedule that for Wednesday morning right? Just in case it gets cancelled and they move me to Thursday. Is that how it works? I read something like that either here or in Tripadvisor.

Yes. That is the general recommendation. I also can recommend Butterfly Balloons; excellent service, good safety record. Some companies have only one launch site, but they have two, so they can pick the best one for the wind and weather on any particular day. You will be picked up super early and probably back at your hotel in time for breakfast.

Take a look at "Argos in Cappadicia" in Uchisar for a nice hotel. They offer non-cave rooms too.

I had the same reasons for choosing to stay in Goreme and I'm glad I did.

As Sassafrass said, you'll end up with 2.5 days. You'll be able to see a LOT. You will not have time to see everything.

From my trip report, which you can see by clicking on my name:
For my balloon ride, I chose a deluxe tour with Kapadokya Balloons and it not met, but exceeded, my expections!

I based my selection on 3 considerations. If what I learned in advance is correct, then:
(1) Kapadokya is the best-established hot air balloon company in the area and the one with the best safety record.
(2) Kapadokya has more take-off/landing sites than any company with the possible exception of its “daughter” company; more take-off and landing sites mean that the company has a better chance of being able to respond to unusual weather, so it is more likely to be able to take off and to take off on time and more likely to be able to stay aloft for a long time.
(3) A hot air balloon ride of any length and with any company was a splurge by my standards, and as a splurge, I decided that I would rather pay the extra for the longer ride in a smaller basket – I didn’t want to land after spending a lot of money, only to wonder whether the extra cost would be worth it.

I was VERY, VERY pleased with my choice. The time seemed to fly by! (No pun intended.) I couldn’t believe that it had been nearly 2 hours when we landed, and it seems I would have missed so much if the ride had been only 1 hour long. ... Being in a small basket definitely contributed to my enjoyment: There were 12 of us in 2 rows; each of us had an unobstructed position at the outside of the basket and we could all easily see in other directions (which wasn’t really necessary because the balloon turned frequently). There was noise on occasion as our pilot heated air to adjust our altitude, but when he wasn’t doing that, we could easily hear him when he spoke about what we were seeing or when one of us asked him a question. And we had plenty of time sailing silently over some of the most amazing landscapes imaginable. And as an example of our pilot’s skill, he landed the basket squarely on the flatbed truck that the company sent.

Bottom line: My hot air balloon ride was amagnificent experience and it was, IMHO, worth every penny.

Hello Salcho,

Esbelli evi is closed in winter and Goreme is like a desrted village in the end of february. if you have not booked your hotel in Goreme, i highly recommend kale konak cave hotel, most of my guests have stayed there and they have enjoyed all their time there. for ballooning, it is a little bit tricky, it is better to choose a nice company with good crew and pilots otherwise you end up in a company which flies groups and a packed basket of tourists.
Yout time frame is quite adequate for touring cappadocia. if you stay in Kale konak, you can walk in the pigeon valley and walk around goreme village, visit the open air museum as well. a group tour next day can take you to ihlara valley to walk and you can visit an underground city as well in that program so you will have covered the must see sites of Cappadocia region. since the balloon tours are early in the morning, you can do it before your group tour of ihlara valley.
i hope i was helpful,
Kadir
