Hotels and daytrips from Rome

Jump to last reply

I'm taking my daughter to Rome as a college graduation present. She is a classical archeology major but has never been to Italy. I'm wondering about hotels near the archeological sites like the collesium as well as any day trips we should make to sites outside of Rome. We definately plan to go to Pompei. Should this be a daytrip or are we better off flying into a city near the site, spending a couple of days and then going up to Rome. She doesn't know about the trip so I can't ask her and I've never been to Italy. Thanks!
