Hotel/B&B in Tuscany Recs?

Looking for the "perfect" place to base in the Tuscany region.

Certain destinations while staying in our hotel:
Siena
Montepulciano, Pienza, Montalcino
Radda, Greve, Castellina
Monteriggioni, Volterra, San Gimignano

Don't want to stay "in" Siena, it sounds like from other posts that a little north, possibly Castellina or Greve, but maybe there is somewhere quaint that is better located? We need a specific hotel or B&B recommendation - have looked at all the mentioned websites and guidebooks, and it all sounds good, hard to discern location not having visited before, and would appreciate personal recommendations. Hoping to not spend more than $150US per night, and preferably closer to $100US if possible. It doesn't have to be swank, just clean, private bathroom, and friendly/helpful owners/desk. If breakfast not included, then near a coffee shop/bakery. Anything above that is an appreciated bonus (romantic ...). We will have a car, so no considerations needed for bus or train stations.

Thanks.

Palazzo del Capitano -- San Quirco
Hotel Vecchia Oliviera -- Montalcino
& also
La Costa -- Montefollonico

Sorry, I'm scattered doing this all in stolen moments w/ the 3 year old and 1 year old. Thank you - I am looking into them and was hoping to get a duplicate gushing recommendation of one (or more) to make the decision a simple one. I appreciate the details very much and planned to post to thank you once I can investigate them all (hopefully tonight).

Hmmm ! Interesting list from awbaker--looks very much like a list of mine from previous posts since I have stayed at 3 of those. However, if you want to include the Chianti loop in your day trips then you ideally need to be NW of Siena. Look at this one that is easy to access from the superstrada north of Siena--nice place.

BTW, sorry about my comment about the kids before--I missed your point. I would spend time at Como after you land to see your friends. Good luck !

sorry, bob. I should have given you the credit. In my previous post to texas chica, I mentioned that these were hotels I considered for my trip.

Texas -- I also have a 3 year old & 9 mo. old who will be staying with Grandma & Poppa while we go to Italy for 15 days in August. We are both so lucky to have such generous grandparents for our children, and for us! Good luck with your planning.

Thank you Bob & awbaker. I just sent an inquiry to Hotel Belvedere - great idea - it looks nice and well located. Thanks for the comment on Como and seeing my friend. I have found in past travels to spend time w/ a local before heading out can be invaluable.

That's nice you are going for 15 days - I'm jealous! We'll take what we can get though! I'm feeling much better from the helpful replies to my questions. This is a great forum.

Thank you again!
