Bruno:
How about a bird's eye view of the Charles Bridge..."At The Three Ostriches"..U Tri Pstrosu. Several Fodorites have stayed there including us and various family members. Easy walk to Old Town and just yards from mala strana and uphill walk to Hradcany Castle. Here are some pics..snow in March is not unusual as you can see.

Um, Old Town isn't the be-all for location.

We stayed in Bishop's House - thisclose to Stu's hotel.

Hi Bruno,

I stayed at U Prince for 4 nights a few years ago. The hotel itself is gorgeous, and our rooms were very nice, but the staff and service were not acceptable, especially considering the prices. The front desk and concierge were marginally decent - willing to answer a question or two, but seemed to be agetting annoyed if you intruded on their time too much more than that. And I'm not talking about taking 30 minutes while there was a line of people behind me ... they just weren't very customer-friendly.

The restaurant staff was abysmal - every morning at breakfast, waiters would stand around chatting amongst themselves for many minutes on end while we sat with no service. Finally, I very cordially requested coffee. I was met mith cold stares, and dealt with as if we were an interruption of their social life for the remainder of our stay.

The Old Town Square is beautiful, but all of the bars and restaurants there were ridiculously over-priced. Go a block or two off on the side streets for friendlier merchants, better service, and good food and drink for 1/3 the price.

We stayed at the Hotel Tri Bubnu, which is around the corner from the Old Town Square. This was our first trip to Prague (won't be our last) so we wanted to stay near the center. It was a great hotel - not a lot of frills, but comfortable and our room was quite spacious. People were nice.
