Hotel suggestions for Bologna, Please!!

Well, now what do we do? We are going to be in Bologna next May for 6 nights. We have just made reservations at the Hotel Paradise which got quite nice reviews on Slow Travel Trip Report. After noting on this website that I had made a reservation at Hotel Paradise, I received a SCATHING review from a Fodorite and now I am nervous. I know that everyone won't be as pleased as others with the same hotel, but this report was horrible.

Please add your experiences and/or suggestions for other lodging. Thank you -

Pam, All I can suggest is to check out the reviews of Hotel Paradise on tripadvisor.com. They are all basically 4 or 5 stars. Our experience was not what the other poster said. I wouldn't call HP in any way a luxury hotel, but our experience was fine. They did warn us that staying in an apartment as opposed to a regular hotel room, we would only get maid service three times a week. But we could get clean towels whenever we wanted.

Good afternoon we have used two hotels on our two visits into Bologna
the first was the HOTEL ROMA, Via Massimo d'Azeglio, 9, a 3 star with 84 rooms, (www.hotelroma.biz.) located about a 1/2 block from the Pza Maggiore
and the second was the HOTEL AL CAPPELLO RUSSO, via de Fusari, 9 located
just out of the rear of the Roma..and
is 4 star with 31 rooms, however more modern in design, thought theRoma was the best of the two and had a fairly good dining room. Restaurants nearby
are the Tratoria Da Adolfo, Corte Galluzzzi, 7 about 1/4 block up from the Roma and the LA MELA via de Fusary, 5 just a few doors down....

Hotel Paradise put us up in a top floor apartment across the street from the actual hotel. We had to lug luggage about 2 flights of stairs, the room was very large and clean with great views over the rooftops, a large bath, great breakfast, and very good location which is a block or two off the main street. Don't know about the other rooms, but this was an excellent stay for us--not a 4 star, but decent.
